... so who's with me? Once Jerry hinted he might not go the direction everyone is thinking for a RB I assumed he might be referring to Michael "The Burner" Turner. And I heard that Wade Phillips loves him from their SD days together. So I looked into him a little more... he ran a 4.46 at the combine 4 years ago and he weighs 237 pounds!!! Wow. What really won me over was his ability to run people over in these highlights and if it wasn't for the speedy Pac Man Jones running him down he would've taken that one run to the house. I'm on board with signing him and I hear he can be had fairly cheap because this is a very deep draft for RB's. Pair him with Barber and we really have something.

He'd have a better chance to be a starter in Atlanta, Chicago and Houston. I don't think he's looking to go be a backup player anywhere else. Marion Barber's presence assures that in Dallas.

That and the fact that we'd have to give Barber a big contract AND Turner also!
A 2nd or 3rd round compliment would be fine by me!
Personally I would want Tatum Bell, Shanahan has said (and anyone who plays FF knows this) that Bell runs BETTER with getting 8-12 carries a game, he can be fresh and bust off LONG RUNS without needing the usually warm up carries most backs need to bust off along run, which is PERFECT for us since that's all the carries he'd be getting with us, and he'd come cheap and we could use our 2nd and 3rd on extra D.B.'s or whatever.

I liked T. Bell coming out of Oklahoma State. And yeah, he does have some juice to him. Ball security was an issue for him early on though.

No thanks

He wants to be a starter so why would he want to join a team where he's splitting carries again?

I like the idea of having him but we dont have the cap space. We are better off drafting a RB. If we pick anybody up in FA it will be a wide out.

I think you are correct - I posted this earlier today. The market is right due to # of RBs in the draft and this would allow Cowboys to go DB/WR/DB/NT on day 1 which what they really want to do based on the talent of the draft.

i realize most people are against this here's why i think it can happen... everyone seems to assume marion barber is going to take over the starter role and carry the rock 25 times a game. i love barber but i don't see it... he'll never hold up over 16 games with that punishing style of his. besides, when has he ever been the primary back?? he split carries at minnesota with lawrence maroney and split carries here with julius. i think dallas will stick with a two back system. sure, barber will get a fair amount of carries but whoever we bring in will get almost as many i think. and i think turner will be very affordable. i agree that there are a few other teams that can probably get him more carries than us. and maybe he'll go that direction. we shall see.
i don't see him landing a big contract though wherever he goes.

Please show me posts where Cowboys fans are expecting MBIII carry the ball 25 times? He carried it 204 this year(12.7 per), and if he averaged 15 per game next year that would put him at 240, and that's where he needs to be and that's why we all we need is a kid that can run the ball about 125-150 times.

Cause I don't see ANY TEAM offering him a starting job in this league where most teams have 2 back systems and the other teams have guys like Tomlinson.
He can WANT to be a starter all he wants, bottom line is I don't see anyone givign him the starting job, do you?
My bad thought you were talkin about Bell!
in which case I AGREE, no way he comes here since he does want starter MONEY at least.

We have space, not much but we do have some space, it's not like he's gonna cost and arm and a leg either.
I don't see any wideout in F/A that we could sign that would be head and shoulders above Crayton, and if that's the case, what's the point of signing him?
I either want a guy head and shoulders above Crayton, ala a 1st round pick or Roy Williams, otherwise I don't see the point in using our cap money on a F/A when we got Crayton and Hurd already and no one we sign in F/A is gonna be so much better than them.
EDIT, sorry, late at niht thought you were tlakin about Bell again,.

If the market sets him at a reasonable price, and there's no way we can get a frontline veteran WR through trade or FA, then I'm all for it. Is $3.5-4 million per year too out of line with the cap growing as it is? Honest question. Seems OK to me. But again, the market will have to have his value in that range. Highly doubtful.
