I'm looking to buy a GPS

Something in the $100 to $150 range. Any suggestions?

Which is better Tom Tom, Garmin or something else?

A GPS enabled Android phone with Froyo on it. It has turn by turn navigation Fo'Free! :)

I have a Garmin Nuvi 260 and it's been fine for me. I don't need all the extra fancy stuff, just how to get where I'm going, but even my little one has a nice search. For example, you can search for restaurants in your immediate area, or businesses by name, etc.

They have an option to buy maps for the life of the device, too, which is nice.

I just got a Garmin Nuvi ... similar to Faerluna's.

I'm living in a new area and it helps.

It's nice to hear a female voice that isn't my wife's telling me where to go (for a change).

FYI...Recall Notice for the Garmin Nuvi...

Where do I get this Frodo app? I didn't know they had hobbit apps. :geek:

You have an Android phone that has 2.2 (Froyo) on it. Make sure GPS is enabled, open Google Maps, search for an address, click on the address marker, then click the road sign that looks like a Right Turn. Choose Navigate. :)

You can't just download an app for your Droid phone? Or just use the maps system on the phone?

I have a Garmin 1490 - reception isn't that good in cities with large buildings. I bought it for my trip to SF but hasn't helped that much in the end. It was supposed to be good for car travel as well as pedestrian travel. Due to the fact it wasn't working well I mostly used a google maps to plan my trips in the city and a free city transit map. I'm definitely going to return it as it hasn't live up to its hype.

I have a 3-year old TomTom that has always worked well. I probably should have brought that instead.

I've heard that the new Garmins have intrusive advertising on them now in exchange for free traffic updates.

I've had several models over the years...

I prefer Garmin, then Tom-Tom, then Magellan...

I have a droid phone for work but I know my boss wouldn't be very happy if I added that to the plan without his permission. lol

I'm wanting this for personal use.

Pretty sure you can get a download that doesn't cost you anything --as long as you have a data plan---have it on my Hero and it works as good as my wifes Garmin

Amazon has TomTom XXL 540S 5" Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator for $89.95 with free shipping. Next lowest on Google Products is $140.

Although, I think Garmin is better than Tom Tom because I've heard that the extra maps are cheaper on Garmin.

Tom Tom. Although the drawback with GPSs is that they will direct you past your destination.

Straight GPS products are dead when mobile phones with Android provide them for free.

Now, move along. The GPS market is dead.

Not everyone has or wants an Android. Slow down, son! :p:

No it's not.

Most GPS stuff is 'free' when you buy a car just like its 'free' when you buy a phone. NO service is free, dude.

GPS on phones are a distraction and expect them to be a law infraction in the near future. See texting. GPS systems offerd in vehicles, voice direction command btw, will not allow one to input a destination without being parked first. GREAT idea, IMO. Most can't talk and drive, imagine them inputting destination information while driving. People with phone GPS will be the first ones to ***** about traffic.
