Of course I'm excited it is Football and more important it is Cowboys Football the one event that I will stop what I am doing make plans to watch the game something I don't do with any other sports. Bottom line I'm not missing the games. lol
I go into each individual year with my own expectation of the team and my own hope for the team, I see question marks not as negatives but as possibilities as the season progresses we will all see the strengths and weakness of this team and if they have the ability to lean on their strengths and overcome their weakness.

This year willbe different. The 'Boys are going to build on last year's results. The defense has to be better, and the offense improves with Martin. Ten wi s gets them into the playoffs.

You are dadgum correct about the offense.

As far as your exuberence for the defense, you are just whistling past the paved yard.

Regardless of how any member on this blog feels about the overall state of team, rather or not you hate the coach, the owner, or the quarterback, even if you don't give the Cowboys a snowball's chance in Hell for contending this year, I'm not sure if anyone can help but feel anything but excited about the return of football. I'm sure many of you watch alot of sports, but for me this is the only one I have any emotional investment; and the Cowboys are the only team that I have rooting interest in. I don't care who is wearing that uniform. Truth be told, it really doesn't make awhole lot of sense. Win or lose, at the end of the day, I contributed nothing to the outcome and therefore should not share in their glories or the agony of their defeat. But I do...and I always will. For my family's sake, I've began to temper my expectations and only allow myself to be cautiously optimistic. I have learned to enjoy the small victories, heedless of the final score. I absorb all the little stories surrounding every player and I am able to further appreciate their play on the field, knowing the hurdles they bounded over and the barriers they broke through to get their chance. I look at the players that make leaps in their ability and celebrate the fact that given the same degree of development from one year to the next we may see the big victories in seasons to come. And if they never come, I'll still be watching and I'll still get excited for the next season because I'd hate to be the guy that missed this team getting hot at the right time and taking it to the Championship. Wouldn't you?

Are you me? Seriously, everything you just said applies to me as well. To a "t".

A fan knows why he comes back...he loves the challenge of a football on a playing field. Where team replaces statistics. Where having a heart is as important as the greatest skills. Where one can root for his team, because he has an emotional attachment with them.

Because no other justification is needed...it's football season.

Well to an extent. No more Rudy types need apply (Heath and Hayden) :D Just messn with ya...good post!

We've got about 10 (Crawford, Lawrence, Carter, Holloman, Wilber, Wilcox, etc) young guys on defense, lets say 3-4 of them step up and prove to be serviceable I think this defense has a chance to be average.

Which is really all we need. I've said it forever that our defense doesn't have to be great, or even good for that matter - they just can't be terrible. If they can be a middle of the pack group, then our offense will carry us.

An average defense last year would've made us an 11-5 or possibly 12-4 team. This team is a couple years away from even sniffing Super Bowl contention, as they haven't proven to be able to beat quality teams (1-19 against teams with winning records).

I'm not naive enough to think this team can suddenly turn the corner and beat teams like Green Bay, New Orleans, San Fran and Seattle in the playoffs consecutively. But if they can get in the tournament and steal a game or two, then I'd view this season as a success.

How can you not be excited this time of year? This should be the time of year when optimism runs amuck.

Yeah, like I'm going to be one of the sheep that tell you that you are an idiot for buying something that you want to be understood as a die-hard Cowboys' fan. Yep.
Go ahead and show your true colors. Isn't that what makes America great? Wait, there are those that don't want that either. I better tread lightly. PFFFFFFFFFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nah! Go ahead and stomp heavily....leave a STAR shaped imprint while your at it.

Yep...get those feelings every year for a couple of months before reality comes crashing down upon me again as another
year of disappointments slaps us in the face about the middle of October.

Bingo . . .
