I'm not sure how this gets fixed

Here's how to fix this:

1) Trade Dak. Only way to do this would be to eat about half his salary. Since we are not going anywhere w/ paying him 60 mil, that's the only way I see out of this.
2) Hire a legit HC. And let him do whatever he wants.
3) Make moves based on 2026. Which could easily mean dumping some favorite players.
THIS.
And only this if you want a genuine re-set and positive plan for success going forward.

Anything other than this would be half hearted attempts and result in the same playoff futility.

Maybe, but maybe the first solution could be a complete coaching overhaul. Aaron Glenn at HC, Robert Salah at DC, and Chris Foerster (49ers oline coach and run game coordinator) at OC. That may start us on the right track at least.
Aaron glenn defense here would mean a penalty on every play. His corners pi or hold on every play. Refs would call every one here.

Following this team gives you nothing but frustration but I think people are finally starting to wake up. Training camp was empty. There seem to be just as many opposing teams fans as our fans at AT&T stadium. And go read comments on facebook, instagram, and youtube. Everyone's had enough.

I used to know the entire roster and practice squad. I even knew their age and where they played in college. Now I might be able to name 20 players and I have no idea who's on our practice squad. When following this team brings nothing but frustration, especially on your day off, then what's the point? I won't be watching much more this year. It's just not enjoyable anymore and hasn't been for a long time.

People can call me a fair weather fan all they want but I have stuck by them for the past 30 years and have gotten virtually nothing in return. I've had enough too. I can't relate to these players and the way this team is built. I actually look on most of them with disdain, especially the ones who are on their second contracts. Those are the biggest underachievers. I don't see any light at the end of the tunnel.
Yep. I am about as apathetic I have ever been as a Cowboys fan and it isn't just me. Plenty of other die hards I know, just aren't invested as much anymore. I used to get together with my uncle for many seasons to watch games. Great experience. We haven't watched a game together since the SF playoff loss in 2023. This was the game that slowly started to wear us down. Another year of the same weaknesses that rear its head during these playoff games and nothing is done to fix it.

I turned the game off at halftime yesterday and didn't think anything of it. This team owes me nothing and I don't owe them anything. Being "loyal" to a professional sports team is a silly concept anyways.

Fair weather fan is jumping ship as soon as they stop winning titles and jumping back when they start again, like Lakers and Yankees fans. Being a Dallas fan for the last 28 years and finally having enough is anything but fair weather. That is realizing the ROI isn't there anymore. It isn't even just about losing for me. I endured the three straight 5-11 years and the dark times of the early 2000s as a whole. Terrible years of 2010 and 2015. Three straight 8-8 seasons to begin the Garrett era. Nope. It's the unwillingness to fix your mistakes and churning out the same roster over and over, hoping for different results. We continue to ignore the interior defense. Build outside in. Give homegrown players unwarranted extensions while completely ignoring proven talent in free agency. Continue to hire yes men, retread coaches. Run the same generic, vanilla playbook since Garrett arrived in 2007.

My Give a Care meter is running on fumes. I get more enjoyment watching the other DFW teams by far. They saw their mistakes over time and corrected them. So not even close to a coincidence we have seen every one of those teams win a championship since Dallas has even last been to the NFC championship round. Mavs/Stars/Rangers the last few years have given this town amazing memories. Cowboys, not even close.

I would never switch and root for another team as I will never have that connection to them organically. I wouldn't get the satisfaction. But watching other non Dallas games are so much more fun these days. I just don't get any enjoyment now even from the wins. I also don't don't feel any real angst over losses. In human relationships, this is always the worst phase because it shows you just don't care. Getting mad/angry/sad at your partner while isn't fun, shows the other person you are still invested and want to make it work. I just really don't care any longer. And marrying ourselves to this toxic core, it isn't getting better.

I could not agree more. I've been with them since January of 1995. I knew we were done winning Super Bowls the minute we won Super Bowl 30 but I stood by them, and I didn't quit when we went 5-11 three straight years. My enthusiasm started to fade during Garrett's tenure and started increasing at an exponential rate.

Losses used to hurt me deeply. I cried whenever we lost to the Carolina Panthers in 1996. I knew it was over before that but I just didn't want to believe it and I had to face the reality that it was. I think the last time I felt any kind of pain after a loss was when Garrett iced his own kicker. That's been over 10 years ago. Since then I don't feel anything.

This is the most unlikable group of players I've ever seen in my life. At least the teams in the late 90s and early 2000s had some decent players to root for. I don't think I like anybody on this team outside of the kicker. Tyler Smith maybe because he reminds me of Larry Allen to a degree. If we had more guys like him, willing to do whatever it took to help the team win, we'd be in much better shape.

As you all may have guessed from the last thread I posted last night, I had something I wanted to post last night but was waiting to try to calm down. I'm a little bit calmer now, but I'm still a very angry horse when it comes to Jerry and this team ATM. I apologise that this thread is going to be long, but I just need to say my piece to let it loose. This is more of a vent thread because I'm absolutely furious with Jerry.

I knew this was going to be a painful season. As soon as Jerry said "All-In", it was obvious this season was going to be a bust. I care deeply about this team. I've been a fan since I was 6. I plan to still be a fan for life. I have Cowboys stars on my fursuit, which is no small thing in the furry fandom. The Cowboys are a key part of my fursona. Yet, it's painful for me to see what's happening, and I'm not sure how it gets fixed. I really don't.

Here's the thing, and some of you have seen me post something to this effect before, but I want effort out of this franchise. I'm 31. I was about 3 the last time we won a SB. Sure, other franchises have had it worse. It's amazing to see the turnaround the Lions have had, and I hope that Hutchinson recovers quickly. That being said, this thread is directly about the Cowboys. I can accept a loss from this team. Heck, my first seasons in the fandom were 5-11. I'm used to losing at this point. What I despise is the lack of effort. I can't say I blame the players to an extent, but it angers me. Why do I not blame the players to an extent? This is where my main focus for this thread comes in. The lack of effort from Jerry Jones.

This isn't just something that took place this past offseason. No, this has been years and years of no effort finally building up to where we are now. In the 2018-2019 season, we got massacred by the Rams (QBed by Jared Goff) in the division round. A big reason for this is that we couldn't stop an aging running back. It was a game that, if we could simply stop the run, we probably win. But we let an aging CJ Henderson run roughshod over us. Since then, we have been PATHETIC at stopping the run. You would think in that offseason, especially not having a 1st round pick due to the Cooper trade that Jerry would need to sign someone who can stop the run. So, what were our signings?

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_Dallas_Cowboys_season

WRRandall Cobb29Green Bay Packers1 year, $5 million
TEJason Witten37Did not play1 year, $4.5 million
DEKerry Hyder28Detroit Lions1 year, $1 million
DTChristian Covington26Houston Texans1 year, $2.5 million (305 lbs and not a NT)

Great! That will fix our team! Oh, we didn't make the playoffs the next year and Garrett's deal ran out. Then we got Mike and went 6-10 with an even worse defence. Then we get Quinn at DC and go 12-5 3 years in a row with minimal signings and ways to address the big issue of stopping the run. Fast forward to last year, and we get massacred by the Cardinals. Oh, but they weren't starting Murray. They were starting Dobbs and were supposed to be tanking. Yet, they run James Connor over us. Great. Well, it's one game....then we get run over again by the 49ers because, again, we can neither run the ball nor stop the run. We had done NOTHING to fix our ground game or run stopping. We have showed no effort during the season to fix a glaring weakness. But, that's okay, we have a great team overall. We got Dak playing lights out. What some didn't realise until the Bills game was that he was masking some glaring weaknesses on this team. If a team could run the ball effectively, we couldn't stop it. There's only so much a quarterback can do when you're forced to be one dimensional in the NFL. So, no surprise, we get demolished by the Packers in the playoffs.

So, you would think with such glaring weaknesses that we would want to address the problem. You'd think we'd want to address NT and RB. You know, the two glaring holes. Derrick Henry is available. I'm not saying he would have fixed anything, but it would at least be effort. Especially for an owner who was "All-In". Yet, he goes to the Ravens, we bring back Zeke with no other contingency plan, and do nothing to fix our run defence. Then Jerry gaslights us all offseason with the all in lie, and then gaslights us in his training camp press conference. As if that wasn't bad enough, he has the nerve to gaslight us AGAIN last night by acting so surprised by our getting torched when ANYONE with ANY LEVEL of football IQ could see we had no chance against Detroit with the way Jerry constructed the team.

Football is about effort. You can have the cream of the crop talent, but without effort starting from leadership, you get results like last night. My anger isn't so much at the fact we are a bad team, it's at the fact that it was preventable! Or, if not preventable, at least there could have been a plan forward IF Jerry knew this team wasn't going to compete. Instead, either because of gross incompetence, a lack of caring, a sick thrill of seeing his fans be miserable, or worse, Jerry does the ONE thing that makes no sense. He waits all offseason and then signs Dak and CeeDee before the season starts. There was no plan at all. At one point, I was thinking, okay, maybe we are rebuilding. I like Dak and CeeDee, but I can be onboard with a rebuild if that's needed. Nope, he doesn't do that. Well, maybe we are trying to compete this year. But he didn't sign anybody besides Kendricks who was out yesterday. Our depth is pathetic. We can't run the ball. And the team is constructed about as well as a cardboard box set on fire.

Of course this team was NEVER good enough this season! Of course Dak is struggling! Of course this defence can't compete! The reason this season is lost and was lost in freaking March? Structural failure! That's on Jerry Jones and entirely on him. No coach would be able to succeed with this. Mahomes couldn't lead this team to the playoffs. Why? Because you can't be one dimensional in the NFL! Especially when you get into the RedZone, you have to run the football. I understand that people think it's a passing league, but football 101 is football 101. Running the ball is just as important now as it was in 1989 when Jerry bought the team.

Additionally, in what world did Jerry think this team was built to be a strictly passing game? Besides Lamb, Ferguson, and maybe Tolbert of late, where do we have enough receivers to be able to throw every play? The dbs can just double our receivers and cover the TE, and we have no other competent weapons. That's easy for defences nowadays. Oh, and we can't run, so they don't have to fear us running it down the gut even if we wanted to. I'm not saying Derrick Henry was a sure-fire success, but at least he'd have presented for $6 mil a threat of a run. At least I'd be able to appreciate the effort from Jerry. Instead, there was no effort to fix this. There was no effort to help the offense. Mahomes has Pacheco and enough weapons to compete. The Chiefs make sure to give Mahomes the weapons he needs to succeed. Jerry hinders Dak at every turn with his lack of effort. If Patrick Mahomes was quarterbacking the Cowboys this season, we probably are sitting at 3-3 anyway just with the construction of this team.

Then, you look at the defence. We all knew entering the season our weaknesses there. Yet, Jerry doesn't do anything to fix that either. So, naturally, we can't stop the run. It makes our pass defence vulnerable because now they have to be extra focused on the run, and we concede 44 to the Saints, 31 to the Ravens, and 47 to Detroit! You can't expect to win many football games when your defence is conceding that many points on a regular basis. Yet, again, this is the fault of Jerry for the construction of the team. Does he care? No! Of course not! If he did, he'd get a GM that can actually build a competitive team. But hey, where's the fun in that when he can make $10 billion just for sitting back and doing nothing? Why work when you can make $10 bil for nothing? That's the easiest gig ever!

The worst part is, short of Jerry selling the team, which I know he won't do, I'm not sure how this team gets fixed. This is going to take more than one offseason at this point to fix such a glaring structural weakness. It's like building a plane with a very weak hull. Of course it's going to explode in the air. It was doomed from the time it left the hangar. Now, it's going to cost him more in parts and labour to fix than to just build a new team all together. This season is a bust because of years of lack of effort. Years of lack of maintenance. Years of ignoring the problem with a few star players masking the weaknesses. Now, those structural problems are so glaring that there's no way to mask it. The engine is on fire, and there's not a fire extinguisher that can put it out now. It has to burn out as the team implodes on itself like Texas Stadium and then be rebuilt entirely.

The worst part for Jerry is, that Packers playoff game may be the last playoff game he's alive to see with how much is going to be necessary to rebuild this team. The worst part for us is we are going to have to sit through this as we probably have a repeat of the very years I started watching this team when we went 5-11 for 3 years in a row. At this point, he may as well rehire Dave Campo as HC because of how bad this team is structurally ATM. Now, it's going to take more than a running back and a NT. Now, we also need more linebackers, more olinemen, and a host of other areas for depth. That's more than one draft can fix. Unless Jerry is willing to go into a cap spending spree to sign as many quality free agents as possible to fix the holes and get the rest in the draft, we aren't going to be relevant much less competitive for the next several years. It's entirely Jerry's fault, and we all, from the coaches to the players to the fans, are going to suffer for it while Jerry gets to rake in the money.
All you had to say was, win or lose, "Jerry still rakes in the money"! That's the real issue here, the Jones' are nothing more than a greedy family of pot belly billionaires who would rather pocket the money that it takes to hire real football minds to run their football empire.

Sure, but I felt it necessary to say the entire op so I could let out my anger. And then he gaslit us AGAIN similar to how I predicted he would today by saying it's a competitive roster. I literally predicted that he'd say something like "come back next week to see the improvement". Sure enough, he gaslit us AGAIN with a similar statement. He's a lying sack of manure .

I go back to The Ice Bowl. Lived and died with this team 57 years. Reveled in 5 huge SB wins. Losses used to gut me. Big Wins were an exhilaration.

Jerry killed the passion. The desire to care.
I watched the first half yesterday with zero emotion and left the house at halftime to run errands. I couldn’t care any less.

The only frustration I have now are the fans who continue to show up at the stadium and support Jerry. The only thing he will ever understand is a blow to his finances. Give him an empty stadium except for the opposing team’s fans and he would at the very least have to pay attention.

I feel ya bro! This is just an over hyped organization that is overloaded top to down with no talent individuals who wouldn't be hired by other organizations to work in the headquarter offices or make a team's depth chart.

I mean, what hype? There's no hype that can honestly be given. I find it ironic how people like Stephen A Smith think we fans think we are going all the way when there's no way we can feel that way. The fact of the matter is we are run by an 82 year old that couldn't care less.

It doesn't get fixed, Jerry is content with mediocrity, Jerry has been content with being relevant and "hanging around the rim". That's the problem with being content about "hanging around the rim", you end up getting dunked on.

I turned it off at halftime, too. I just didn't care. I knew the score would only get worse. Honestly surprised Detroit didn't get over 50 just to spite us.

I even turned it off at halftime of the GB playoff loss. Never I have turned off a playoff game. Would have never did this years back. But this team means very little to me and I hate that, as I grew up a die hard fan. But the Jones family have ruined it for me. They refuse to hire a real front office who have complete autonomy. Don't be fooled by Will McClay. He still has to run all his decisions through the Jones circus.

Jones family is a prime example by narcissitic, stubborn wealthy men. They would rather lose than our way than win with someone else's vision. If they don't care about winning, why should I care and invest my time in watching?

It has now been 29 seasons since the Super Bowl year. It has never been fixed and never will be. Jerry has accepted mediocrity for over 2 decades now. Think about this, we let Jason Garrett be our head coach for almost the entire 2010s. It took the Giants less than 2 years to see how terrible he was and fired him as an OC mid season. We kept him as head coach for 9 full seasons. He should have been fired after 3 straight 8-8 seasons, 3 straight NFC East last game losses and so many meltdowns and chokejob losses each year, including one icing his own kicker. Nope, he stayed here the rest of the decade.

I thought Jerry might have turned a corner when he hired Parcells after the junk we endured after Jimmy. But nope, this was only to get that stadium approved. We then went to Wade, while I love the guy, no business being a head coach. Then Garrett and a retread McCarthy. Jerry isn't serious about winning and never will be.

Let's keep this in perspective. We only lost the ballgame by 13 field goals. (/sarcasm)

I hate the country club culture of this team, created & fostered by the ownership. Players don't show up to training camp, players excused from practicing. Players running upstairs to Jerry's office to complain about playing time. Helicopters landing on the practice area. Players more concerned with their individual "brands" and social media accounts than attaining on-field excellence. Absolutely no lunchpail-totin', hard-nosed work ethic. As a result, the Cowboys have gone soft, and the Lions proved it beyond a shadow of a doubt on Sunday by pushing what looked to be a bunch of inept pansies all around the field. Making everything all those who love to hate the Dallas Cowboys appear to be true.

This is not a "coach here, a player there" type of issue. It's systemic...it's metastatic. It's a fish that's rotted from the head down. I certainly have no idea how to even begin to fix it, other than blowing the whole thing up from ownership on down and truly starting over - which is obviously not going to happen anytime soon.

What I really fail to understand is the appearance that this season has appeared to be a deliberate "tank" since last January's stunning embarrassment. Not one significant move in free agency. Willful neglect of our offensive backfield, with golden opportunities there for the taking. Allowing Dan Quinn to poach our people to help build a division rival already looking better than us. While making our QB, most noted for folding like a cheap card table when the stakes get high, the highest-paid player in the NFL. Boggles the mind.

You are too heavily invested there dude with that length of post. Jerry is not worried about it so you should not let it get you down. I learned that lesson a few years back! Nothing changes until Jerry and Stephen are gone so it may be never!

I know. The problem is, as I explained to @Ranching is that I'm a very passionate horse. I have always been a diehard fan, and, in terms of being a furry, I'm very much passionate about that. I have been credited on many occasions at cons for bringing high energy because I'm always trying to be the best I can be. I've never seen success with this team,.and it angers me that I see such little effort from the FO.
