I'm starting to fall in love with a deep trade down

I'm talking from #16 down to #27-#32 deep adding another 2nd rounder. This is one crazy deep draft, would absolutely love another 2nd rounder. Anyone else on board?

I would absolutely love to find a way to pick up another second. I will say, however, that teams don't often trade second round picks to move up to a mid-round pick.

They have to resist the temptation of trading down if there is a top notch player available. I did the math, we will have a shot at 2 top notch players minimum. I would love more picks but I don't want 2009 to happen again.

Haha, oh? Care to list your 18 "top notch" players?

I love the idea of being able to trade down to 25ish and still getting Hageman or Tuitt. Not exactly sure who would be on the board that any team would willing to jump up so high for though. Baring a major slide of a player we don't have a big need for. Maybe if a team views Martin as a LT and he's still on the board, but other than that I don't see it happening. The other teams aren't going to be oblivious to the fact that its an incredibly deep draft and give up key assets for just any player.

Not sure I agree with this entirely. One of the three top tier WRs may drop. Martin may drop. Heck, one of the qb's may drop. There are always surprises in the draft.

They would be lucky to pull off the same trade they did last year. Lots of teams want more picks because it is deep draft, and draft picks equal cheap labor.

None of the good teams are trading up from the end of the 1st to get a QB. And who is your 3rd best WR? I see Watkins, Evans, and then a bunch of other guys who are in the same tier depending what type of WR you are looking for. I just dont see anyone trying to trade up for a guy like Marquis Lee when the likes of OBJ, Cooks, or Allen Robinson will most likely be available without giving up any additional assets.

Not saying it's impossible or that I wouldn't want to trade down, I just dont think it's going to be very easy

Not me. I'd be all for dropping down a few spots and adding, say, a 4th, if the draft broke right. Otherwise, I'd rather stay put and take an impact player there in the top 20 where we can be reasonably expected to get somebody with a decent first-round grade.

Last year the Cowboys didn't have a 1st round grade on any of the players they selected. Although it worked out well for them, they probably don't want to make that a habit. If they do trade down, it will more likely be to go down a few slots and there will still be several players with 1st round grades on their board.

2009 was horrifying.
Most teams usually only have about 15-25 or so "true" 1st round talents on their board. I think that list goes up to around 30 this year.

So on one side, I agree that we don't want to be too cute and trade all the way out of the the 1st round talent (espcially since we want to match need with value in there somewhere) I do see us possibly dropping down into the 20s--of course, always depending on how the draft is unfolding.
Then after taking a hopeful starter there we can see how things go knowing we have ammo to move up from the 2nd round to maybe even get a second "true 1st round talent".

I don't know about getting an extra 2nd rounder from dropping down from 16...seems unlikely. A 3rd rounder is more like it.

Not entirely true, could definitely see the Broncos moving up to grab Bridgewater, Bortles or heck, even Manziel, if they fell.

I'd be happy with a trade down. Just remember that if everyone thinks the draft is deep (and I assume this is the case), the trade market will be weak. A team shouldn't get as much trading down in a deep draft as they would in a top-heavy draft. So we could have a repeat of last year, where the return picks don't add up according to the traditional trade chart.

lol, k.

Here it goes (in no particular order):

1. Bridgewater
2. Bortles
3. Maziel
4. Clowney
5. Mack
6. Barr
7. Robinson
8. Matthews
9. Watkins
10. Dennard
11. Mosley
12. Evans
13. Martin
14. Gilbert
15. Ebron
16. Donald
17. Lewan
18. Dix
19. Pryor
20. Hageman

These are the players I have first round grades on as well as most draft "experts". So just by sheer numbers alone, we will have a shot at five players with first round grades. Lets just say 2 out of those 5 could be fits for the Cowboys. Thats not even taking into account a team reaching bad on a player like Carr. No need to trade down more than 2-3 spots at most.

If CLE goes OT or Clowney with their first, they may want to trade up from 26 to get a Carr. But I wouldn't want to go further back than that. I would then try to trade back up to the early 2nd to get Shazier or any first round fallers.

This is a very deep draft according to Mike Mayock(who i think is a very good talent evaluator), so trading down a few spots for a second, even a high third round pick is a very tempting scenario, it all depends on the players available at the moment.
