CowboysZone ULTIMATE Fan
I’ve been on vacation the last week in the Rocky Mountains in a cabin with no Wi-Fi. It was actually very refreshing to be out of the loop for a few days. I completely missed Sunday’s game in Denver and it sounds like I chose the right one to miss.

Upon arrival home last night I saw the article the Wall Street Journal had about Jerry and the natural gas well he’s focused on right now. His quote, “That’s why I’m talking to you on the telephone rather than trying to fix our defense with the Dallas Cowboys”, did not surprise me in the least.

Apparently some Cowboys fans were surprised and angered. I wasn’t surprised. However, here is what does surprise me:
  • That any Cowboys fan would be surprised that our part time, incompetent GM would make a comment like that. Nothing new about that folks. Jerry has always been a part time GM.
  • Anyone thinking adding a player or two to this defense or even a new defensive coordinator will somehow magically make a very below average collection of talent on defense suddenly decent.
Jerry has been telling us who he is and what he is capable of for decades. Why is it hard for anyone to not know that by now?

The last time our “hard working” (wink, wink) 83 year old part time GM won a divisional playoff game, he was 53 years old.

Surprising?

Glad you got away you deserve it, know you thought of some great cowboys content while you were up there!!

Why we would be active at the deadline instead of the start of free agency is crazy!! BEFORE someone gets mad I'm not saying sign every high priced player, but at least look around sheesh

Not at all.
It's beyond obvious the Cowboys are going nowhere fast with this GM.
It's sad for longtime fans like myself that he has mismanaged this team so badly, that my enthusiasm for the team has fallen to apathetic levels.

I’m not sure if my goal this season is to build or tear down anything. I just want guys to root for.

The idea we have to support dak or build around our defense or do any one particular thing is missing the point.

I wanted Micah offf the team bc I don’t like rooting for Micah parsons. I want the draft picks we use to go towards guys who do the right things. Not to sound like a cheese ball,

So if you trade a pick and you get Justin Simmons 320 lb dt and him and Clark become an awesome fun duo so be it.

If the idea is to hold onto the picks and “build “ a defense over 2 years I think that is misguided. You’ll be building while the same core players get hurt and need new contracts

This stuff isn’t static

Having rambled all of that I think they need to add someone pro bowl esque just to make this season more fun. Even if it’s 8-8-1 and we “wasted “ a pick

Not surprising for me at all, Bob. It does anger me and frustrate me. Literally every other fanbase has had a season or two where they challenged for the SuperBowl. Meanwhile, Homer and Bart Simpson run our beloved team into the ground competitively, worrying only about the financial end of the operation

The worst part of all this to me is knowing that despite having some good draft capital in the next two drafts, we have a complete football moron in control of it.

Jerry is a business genius but when it comes to understanding how to build a quality NFL roster that wins playoff games in the cap era, he’s a complete moron.

No, I'm not surprised.

1. If you are still in here looking for a way to fix the team, I'm surprised.
2. If you are in here calling people out for not blind homering for the team, I'm surprised.
3. If you think things are going to change with a new defensive coordinator, I'm surprised.
4. I'm surprised.

I’ve been saying this for years. Jerry don’t give a dang about defense and never has. I give him credit for the business end of the Great Train Robbery, but the other JJ was the one responsible for how most of those draft picks were used, and I’ll never believe any differently.

I am not surprised or moved by Jones's comments. I am sure he talks about his businesses the same way he talks about his football team. It is gaslighting and show.

I think it would be good for Jerry to go focus on his other businesses. He should step away from football and do that full time. I imagine if he did, he would run those businesses into the ground the same way he has run the Cowboys franchise into the ground, at least in weekly game performance.

Yup. Jerry is a non-GM GM. He never has done the duties of a GM, which is why any team we have that is decent is a paper tiger.

I haven’t seen anyone surprised about it. Just alot of the same meaningless worthless whining.

The only way Jerry makes meaningful changes, or adds an infusion of legitimate talent to improve the defense is if the teams sub-par performance would negatively impact the Forbes valuation of the franchise.
