I'm thinking A'Shawn Robinson or Elliott

Trade back a few spots, pick up another second round pick or more likely something like a third and fifth round pick. Then either take Robinson or Elliot. I'm torn on which would be better. Taking Robinson would depend on whether or not he would be ideal to play the 3 technique and if we could move Crawford to RDE and Lawrence back over to LDE. If there are too many question marks with that kind of shuffling, take Elliot.

Here's the thing though. I don't think Crawford will ever be a dominant 3 technique, which is really important on this defense. If Robinson could be that dominant 3 technique - a Warren Sapp type - then I'd think long and hard about taking him.

There is some talk of Robinson going as early as #5 depending on how he works out. He could legitimately jump Nkemdiche after workouts and scouts review tape. Personally, I think he's a better prospect than Nkemdiche and should go higher. If we trade back, my guess is the team has eyes on either Elliott or Treadwell.

I also like Robinson a lot better than Nkemdiche. He's bigger, stronger, more productive and a lot more reliable of a person.

I'm OK with staying at #4 and taking Robinson IF he projects to be an ideal 3 technique and IF Crawford could play RDE.

Actually, after looking harder at it, I'm thinking Robinson is more of a 1 technique than a 3 technique, and you don't spend a Top Ten pick on a 1 technique in this defense. So I'm disagreeing with myself here! Nkemdiche is the prototype 3 technique, but I don't think you take a guy with those kind of character questions with a Top 5 pick. Too bad, because that guy has all the makings of a 3 technique superstar.

That scenario is fine except for moving Crawford back outside. He's played well inside albeit his rotator cuff. I think the guy who could move outside is David Irving. He has the body for it. He could be the 1st /2nd down RDE and bring in Gregory on passing downs IMO. I don't see a big need at DE as most , I think the huge need is at 1tech.

Not interested in drafting a DT with the 4th pick. Actually not interested in drafting a DT at all in the first round.
I remember Marinelli saying after last years draft that our defensive scheme doesn't put enough emphasis on DT to make this our premium impact player draft pick.

I could get on board with Elliot if we feel he is a potential star back.
