Why not? They can be creative in using him. Heck, they can put him in as blocking fullback in power situations or even put him as a blocking TE. They just have to be creative thats all.

all 46 players active usually have a role on the field, either in the base offense or special teams. activating him means one less special teams player

Thats not to say he can't be on special teams. I think eventually they will use his ability to block in some power packages. His just a rookie for now but I think they will use him in some capacity.

7 players don't play and at this point 6 of them are likely going to be CMichael, DStreet (injury), GSwaim, JMills, RRussell (I think they go with an extra DT and have JCrawford play more end) and KBishop.

So, do who do you deactivate for Collins to play? We can deactivate one of everybody's favorite two whipping boys in JHeath or DMcCray, but they are both special teams starters. We can deactivate Dunbar, but he plays on several units as well and it's unwise to go with only 2 RBs. We could deactivate KSmith, but we are likely to get more from him in special teams than Collins.

I want Collins to play, I think we are really missing an opportunity if he's only practicing, but I just don't think the team feels the same way.

They did that at like one practice

They did it last year, they did it at OTA, and they did it in practices until Martin got the stinger. Not to mention using Collins at both guard spots before Martin got the stinger.

Jason, Witten, L. TE; Tyron Smith, LT; Ron Leary, LG; Travis Frederick, C; Zach Martin, RG; Doug Free, RT; La'el Collins, R.TE;

Tony Romo, QB;

Tyler Clutts, FB

Christine Michael, RB

And Dez at wideout, who demands double coverage. (but doesn't get it)

Throw to Dez, TD!!!!

In the meantime, the offensive line pounds the Giants DL 4 yards off the ball, just to make a point. I can't wait until Sunday.

You had me at "first and goal at the one"

Michael won't be on the active roster until one of our top 3 backs is injured.

Because a 7th round pick is linked to his playing time he might not be activated until an injury or our running game begins to struggle. As long as the McFadden/ Randle combo produce especially in short yardage the Cowboys may stay with them but if they start struggling moving the chains on 3rd and 2's and 3's or have issues pounding the ball in during goal line situations I expect a shakeup with Michael being activated and ready to go.

Oh sure, go ahead and burst my bubble with reality..... nice.

I know about Michael not likely to be there, but La'El Collins... he has to be active!

At some point this year, Dallas lineup at the goal line is going to be unfairly dominant. We have too much talent available on the offensive line.

For God's sake, try to keep up. He has spent time at center both this year and last in practice. They are doing that for a reason, like I don't know, maybe they want Collins to get game reps in goal line and that can't happen if he is not active. They also had Collins playing both guard spots in preseason, so that fits into a plan to have him active and Benadeau inactive at some point this season.

Broaddus said last week that Bernadeau would be above Collins in terms of the depth chart at Guard. Bernadeau and Leary were the starters for the 3rd preseason game which is the "tune up" game for the regular season.

As others have indicated, Bernadeau being the backup Center requires him to be active. They only carried 7 active OL last season. They have to have a Center and OT if they only carry 7. If they really have Mills as only the backup RT and Weems is actually the backup LT then they could be forced to carry 8; although, I would expect them to just move Free to LT in that event and have Mills replace him at RT.

Either way, there is not much incentive for them to have Collins active. I would like for him to be active because he would get to block on Field Goals and Extra Points which would give him that little bit of experience in real games.
