IMDb has announced it will be shutting down its discussion groups on Feb 20. Can anyone recommend a good alternative?

I'm also interested in the alternative. I'd bet IMDb is shutting down discussion because people used it to further their agendas instead of writing movie reviews. I kept seeing that. Annoying.

Have no clue if the discussion forums are good, never used them at IMDB but it would stand to reason they would be decent since Rotten Tomatoes is a pretty prominent rating site for movies.

I just like IMDB to look up who an actor is (looks familiar to me) or to read the trivia sections.

It sucks because even though there were a ton of trolls, racist crap on there, there was also a ton of info to get about TV shows and movies and really good insight on that board. Maybe they'll reconsider and bring it back at some point.

You could gain a ton of info without ever going into the discussion forums on IMDB and still can.

Actors, Directors, Sound Tracks, Filming locations, Trivia, Goofs, Quotes and so on.

Yes, that is very true. But reading IMDb for reference is not the same as engaging in stimulating discussion.

Imagine if these forums were shut down, and instead, you were told to read the media guide for your Dallas Cowboys information?

Guess you make a point. Like I said...I never read the discussion forums on IMDB.

If I want to talk about a movie...I usually post about it in the netflix thread or the movies you just watched thread here in the Off Topic Zone. :)

I've checked several alternatives, and so far I like this one the best:

http://www.moviechat.org/

It's basically a clone of the IMDb forums, which is exactly what I was looking for, and none of the others come close.

I've not noticed trolls or racists but I haven't spent a lot of time there. When I have I always see posts stating how hot (insert actress name here) is and asking if she has ever done a nude scene because they want to see it.

I use, and have been using for about 4 years now, the AVClub for film discussions. It's a bit highbrow, but there's some wonderful people there. Everyone enjoys films of various natures, and generally, unless you're an arse, you're accepted right away. Large community.

https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/

if you're looking for a movie or a show in particular to discuss, you can just type the name of it into the search on www.reddit.com and usually there will be a thread or multiple threads that come up

I do this a lot, too. When I couldn't find a bonafide discussion on Making A Murderer, Reddit was my go-to.

I use Reddit a lot, actually. A bit off-topic, but their The Most Interesting Pages on Wikipedia sub is awesome :)

They are scheduled to put forums back online in 2025.
