Impact of no Dez

I'm starting to come to the belief that Dez will miss the balance of the season. Without a true number 1 and so-so results of the running game, how will this season go?

Linehan will really earn his money this year. Packers lose Nelson and Pats have no true number 1 WR, yet the win and compile points. Will the same happen here? It may, though it will take some games to adjust.

Thoughts?

Why do you believe Dez is lost for the season? The Cowboys have yet to come out and put a definitive diagnosis so it's really wait and see. We'll do the same thing New England does. They haven't had a true #1 since Moss was traded to Minnesota in 2010. They run a lot of two TE sets and utilize both and they obviously have one of the best in the game in Gronk just like the Cowboys do in Witten along with an improving #2 in Escobar who has been productive when given opportunities.

Then there's Dunbar. Explosive and elusive that the Cowboys will continue to exploit when he will get matched up with linebackers. McFadden and Randle will be the 1/2 punch at running back and both also are solid pass catchers. They just traded for a 4.3 speedy and big wide receiver who can stretch the field. They still have another big play receiver on the other side in Terrance Williams. Cole Beasley, who has the skill set to be one of the premier slot receivers in the league and is right on that path. Oh and yeah we still have one of the best quarterbacks in the world in Tony Romo. A stud offensive line that didn't allow a sack in Week 1.

If he misses most of the season we are in trouble. He can't be replaced at this point. Hopefully it 4-6 weeks.

I think if DEZ can come back even for the last 3rd of the season he will be ready to go for the playoffs !!! Yes, I said PLAYOFFS !!! This is where we have to have DEZ if we want a shot at winning the Super Bowl.

In DEZ's recovery time the Cowboys need to get DMAC some more plays. This guy can be a playmaker !!! :yourock:

Kind of interesting. Recall all the hold out talk and the discussion in the Zone of how much we'd miss him if he held out. Now we're going to find out.

Yes, it would hurt, but this is still a dangerous offense.

And the defense is significantly improved with its pass rush.

The season doesn't hinge on Dez, though it'd be awfully nice to have him. The season does hinge on Romo staying upright, however.

The impact of no Dez will place every teams #1 corner on TWill and Witten will likely be doubled up a lot. Expect to see a lot of stacked boxes to stop the run putting the game on Romo. Forget throwing 50-50 balls up for grabs or the fade in the endzone. Receivers can't continue letting Romo down and continuing to turn the ball over will get the Cowboys beat against better teams.

I think T Williams will do a better job than some are thinking and given the fact he has done a lot of work this past off season out the X position as Dez was not in camp will make this change a bit easier for Williams and Romo. Before anyone starts with claiming I am comparing Williams to Dez, I'm not but I will say I think Williams is a very capable WR in his own right and I think will step up for the Cowboys

It's going to be hard to win a SB without Dez. You can't judge things on the Giants game because the Giants aren't that good.

I am cosigning with erod, the season does not hinge on Dez, just like it was not going to hinge on Demarco not being here. As long as we have our OL healthy we can beat any team, oh our star QB staying healthy as well.

I have come to look at the OL and the DL as the true skill players in football, because if you have a good to great OL and DL you can put average people behind them and still win consistently. I base that off of the Patriots and the giants.
I believe DEz will be back before this season I over and the team will be even stronger when he gets back, but they will have learn to play without him. I believe the WRs will step up, the TEs meaning 2nd and 3rd and 4th will step up, the RBs and what I really believe will happen is that Romo will be hitting any and everyone that comes open instead of directing the majority of his balls toward one person, when he does that he is truly in the top 3

was any of that in play during when Dez was out during the Giants game (sans the turnovers)? i remember seeing a lot of dink and dunks and gashing of the defense. they dared us to play short and took away the long game. we bit and it worked. RBs became receivers.

Dez when out later in the game all of this will be in play once opponents have a chance to prepare and game plan for the Cowboys. We caught the Giants D off guard with dinks and dunks to the backs but opponents will game plan for that. Throws to the backs have to be well executed to be effective. You can take some losses on those plays so the Cowboys can't just rely on throws to the backs as extended handoffs to move the ball they still need a solid running game.

Can't argue with this. WR is one of, if not the, thinnest position groups on the team. I mean, Devin Street is a starter now. I think we're going to see a lot more short stuff to the RBs and TEs, out of necessity. Whether that will be enough, who knows. The downside of that is what we saw in the first two drives on Sunday: when it takes you many many plays to drive downfield, the odds of the drive-killing error go way up.

I have a feeling Escobar could be a player to counter the loss of Dez in the redzone/endzone. He's tall and we saw on his TD Sunday Night that he can score if given the opportunity. The Cowboys have to make up for some of the TD's they'll be losing with Dez so his loss could end up being an opportunity for Escobar to start paying dividends for the Cowboys.

Yes they will and as they look for the dink and dunk Romo has the ability to read and react to the defense he will take what they give. Williams is not some cripple out there he is a very good WR and I think he will show he is more than capable of helping this team while Dez is down.
