Impact: Projecting Roles for the 9 Draft Picks

It's gonna be fun to see how the 2 rookie backs are used in preseason games. I'd say of the 2 vet backs that were signed, at most only 1 makes the roster. The Deuce will be loose, but probably as in cut loose.

My boy, Blue and Musaffa will be lighting and king of the mountain....not the mountain that's broken, that one belongs to the cult.

I differ a little in my guess for "roles"

Toia battles with Rodgers for the last DL position (only 4 making the 53). They will only keep one, and Mazi isn't due a new contract yet and was drafted to high to admit bust "yet". Osa and SThomas have the 3T for this year, Mazi has the starting 1T......so Rodgers or Toia are the last DL spot this year. They will keep 6 DE's barring trade.

Tommy Akingbesote is really a bigger 3T, and not a 1T. Best guess he was drafted to go to the practice squad, and take Solomon Thomas position next year when he wants a new higher paying contract.

Rbs will most likely be on the team, IF, Mafah proves to be the best power back. I could see them basically cutting the existing ones and having a new backfield next year. This one will be a battle, and depend on how the OC wants to utilize backs.

DonoEz is in the rotation with the other 5 guys. They keep 6 DE and 4 DL.

Shavon they are hoping will allow them to cut Diggs next year or not have to pay Bland. Win, Win for Dallas if he plays out.

Ajani Cornelius is practice squad all the way. Swing tackle or can take either if he develops. They don't need inside help presently.

Shemar James, imo, was drafted to back up Overshown, and play special teams. Development guy who may end up on practice squad IF someone else stands out, if not, then plays behind Overshown.

Some insight to each of the draft picks roles. Not that they have not been discussed by all of us.
But some good stuff anyway.

What gets me is they are saying Blue and Mafah will have competition in a crowded RB group.
man you lazy..done!! JK LOL :welcome:

1. Tyler Booker (1st round, 12 overall, G, Alabama) – Selecting Booker at 12th overall Projected role: With Zack Martin hanging up his cleats, Booker was selected to fill his shoes at right guard, and likely will from the jump.

2. Donovan Ezeiruaku (2nd round, 44th overall, DE, Boston College)Projected role: With guys like Sam Williams and Marshawn Kneeland alongside him in the room, Ezeiruaku will at the very least serve in a rotational role.

3. Shavon Revel Jr. (3rd round, 76th overall, CB East Carolina)Projected role: Assuming Revel does in fact return for training camp and is a full go, he has the chance to be the second starter opposite of DaRon Bland.
4.Jaydon Blue (5th round, 149th overall, RB, Texas)Projected role: The Cowboys' running back room is crowded, but Blue's speed and ability as a receiver give him a leg up over some of the other backs in the room. If he can improve his ball security, he has a chance to earn snaps as a member of a by-committee approach or even in a starting role.
5. Shemar James (5th round, 152nd overall pick, LB, Florida)Projected role: Special teams is a great place for James to start out to both refine his tackling craft and let his athleticism and physicality show.
6.Ajani Cornelius (6th round, 204th overall pick, OL, Oregon)Projected role: Cornelius presents himself as an intriguing option as a swing tackle, with the ability to push for backup roles at any position on the offensive line outside of center.
7. Jay Toia (7th round, 217th overall pick, DT, UCLA)Projected role: With only five defensive tackles on the roster heading into the draft, Toia has a real opportunity to earn a large chunk of snaps on the defensive line in his rookie season, and even push Mazi Smith for a starting role if he plays well enough.
8.hil Mafah (7th round, 239th overall, RB, Clemson)Projected role: Similarly to Blue, Mafah will have to stand out in a crowded running back room, and his power and ability to push forward will likely have to be the determining factors in that equation in order to earn a role in Dallas' run game.
9.Tommy Akingbesote (7th round, 247th overall, DT, Maryland)Projected role: Akingbesote and Toia will likely compete against one another for the second one-technique spot on the roster, and Akingbesote has a lot of developing to do but has extremely high upside.

there are few PS players we selected. I think Mafah is a PS player. the DT from maryland either will be gone or PS. the kid from Oregon, if they feel like he is safe in PS, probably ends up there. if he is projected to be a guard, there is too many guards in front of him. Revel is going to start on PUP list. woohoo another injured player we drafted. I wonder how that will turn out based on the past 4 we picked with injuries.

so probably 5 make the team. one starter in booker and bunch of rotational and depth players.

< just joking >
I knew Jerry was on this board.

There is no WAY Booker is the NFL Rookie of the year when Blue leads the league in yds and tds, DonoEz leads in sacks, and Revel in ints.
Only Jerry wouldn't admit the mistake of drafting a guy who is only All-pro in the first .... and call him rookie of the year as well.
