First off, I would like to thank hairic for his videos. This isn't to ignore Kilyin's contributions, but the fact is I use hairic's more. He's got each quarter posted per video and it makes these write-ups easier because I can skip around better. Kilyin does a good job instantly posting the interviews or segments from the Sunday morning chat shows and also NFL Network specials. I encourage him to continuing doing that and to leave the game tapes to hairic.

On to my impressions.

Even though I was wrong about the Buccaneers winning 29-26, take a look at what I wrote:

I just don't know about this team. I feel like they're still asleep, like the urgency hasn't kicked in yet. Or, if it did, it faded after the Giants game. Plus, I'm not too confident with Witten not being 100% and then Ratliff and Sensabaugh remaining out. I'm not saying we're going to get dominated again, but we're not going to be firing on all cylinders to win this contest.

Would you say this team is firing on all cylinders?

In Their Defense -- Since 2006, I've seen the defense as the inept and typically taken the offense's side in arguments. That was especially true in 2011. Not this year, sister. We'll have to see what the injuries do to us, but we're on the right track. Sean Lee is always around the football, and Bruce Carter displays that sideline-to-sideline ability so well. His ability to clean up swing passes and screens has been sorely missed for years. Spencer also is showing improvement. Crawford and Hatcher did a good job getting pressure from the inside. We're going to have so much pass rushing versatility once Ratliff gets healthy. I just hope our safety situation isn't so porous that we're back to the 2011 conundrum.

Witten Protection Program -- I've been going back and forth on this, and I think this is my official statement on Witten. I don't think he's hurt. Look at his effort to get that first down in the first quarter against Mark Barron as proof. Rather, I think his lack of practicing has really hampered him. Remember: he couldn't even be on the sidelines during games at one point. Some injured players get to work off to the side or do walkthroughs. It wasn't that way for Witten. He really had to sit out. So, I say keep playing him. Right when the defense stops respecting him is when I hope he regains his powers.

Bernad'oh -- People have been dogging Mackenzy Bernadeau this week. I don't think he played a bad game. I think he's getting criticism because he was in on that play where Romo almost got concussed. His pass protection was above average. Including the blast on Romo, Bernadeau only allowed 3 instances where his man was pressuring Romo. The one area that Bernadeau looks bad is his run blocking. I only saw him get to the second level twice the whole game. Bernadeau is an okay pass protector whose running blocking skills haven't manifested.

Tony's Turnovers -- They're starting to concern me. There is a "chicken and the egg" element to them. Are they caused by the offensive line or not? He gets a pass this week for his pick to Talib, because that was simply a great play on Talib's part. That tells me he studied our film this week. The first fumble could have been avoided. It was, again, another instance of Romo trying to make a bigger play in the red zone than just being satisfied with three points. The second one is debatable. In any event, he has committed 5 turnovers in the last 3 games. He didn't even do that to end 2011! The last time he approached those levels was in 2008 when he committed 4 turnovers in the first 3 games. Our offense is so anemic right now that he needs to protect the football foremost. I have more confidence in our defense right now. We'll have more chances to win protecting the football than looking for the big play.

Secondary Concern -- Seeing Mike Jenkins contributing to this defense was a nice thing to behold. I'm glad that we've got a creative enough defensive coordinator to start involving all three of our top-rated corners. Seeing Carr play safety was unexpected, but the important thing is to get Carr, Claiborne, and Jenkins on the field. We did a nice job against Mike Williams and Vincent Jackson. I'm not too worried facing some of the other wide receiving corps on our schedule. I just hope Jerry is too busy shopping Jerry Wipes to start shopping Jenkins. I can see that happening. Right when we need Jenkins, trade him to the Lions for a 7th rounder in the 2014 draft.

Seattle Still Stings -- People are using the Seahawks' win over the Packers and their 2-1 placement as a reason to not feel bad about our Week 2 implosion. No, I'm sorry. That game still sucks, and it's because we went out there and -- actually, I'm not sure if we were ever out there. The Crackers played the kind of game we should have played against the Seahawks. Yeah, they sacked Rodgers and knocked him around, but their special teams and offense didn't just spot the Seahawks 10 points. If we would have lost a grind-it-out, laborious battle against the Seahawks like the Crackers did last night, it wouldn't have been as easy to complain. This team, notably the offense and special teams, still has a problem of going about the process "the right way." And even though it was a win, the Tampa Bay game didn't do anything to provide countering evidence. The Bears aren't so consternating to me, but I still dread having to go to Baltimore in a couple weeks.

The loss to the Pack stings....but after watching them last night. I really wonder if special Teams had not handed the Hawks 10 points in the first 5 mins AND we had not dropped the football as much.....how different would the outcome have been?

The Hawks defense is going to be tough at home all year. At the start of the year I was sure the 9ers would own that division. But the 9ers are offensivley challenged, and the Hawks can get after you on defense. That division could be a toss up.

I agree we need Jenkins...BUT, for a 3rd I would really listen. OR....maybe we can trade Scandrick for a 5th....and use the cap savings to re-sign Jenkins this offseason.

No; not at all. Never. I want to win now. Keep Jenkins.

If we were the Cheatriots and we had already won our Super Bowls, I'd be inclined to do that. But we need to win now. Keeping Jenkins gives us the best chance to do that. Plus, he can play for a contract with someone else this way.

Perhaps the Pats won Super Bowls BECAUSE they manage their roster correctly. Didn't they trade Deion Branch for a 1st rounder during the season. Or was it the offseason after they won a Super Bowl. Either way, they knew their Super Bowl chances did not hinge on Branch...and made the deal. Heck Branch started 15 games for them last year...and they CUT him this offseason....brought him back last week...and are now shopping Welker.

There should be very few sacred cows in Dallas. We have not won ANYTHING. Jenkins is NOT a sacred cow

Branch was traded in 2006, a full season after their three Super Bowls. Realizing how depleted their receiving corps was, the Cheatriots traded for Moss, Welker, and signed Donte Stallworth the following season.

Jenkins is of great utility to us. Let's win now and then let him go. The only way I'd let him go is if we can get a 1st, 3rd, and 7th for him, but Jerry Jones can't do deals with himself.

Tony is pushing too much; and that is an area where Red Ball should be stepping up and calming him down.

And frankly the Pic was not really his fault; Talib made a great play and to me it looked like Austin was not working as hard as he could there.

Fumble was clearly Romo trying to make something out of nothing.

Even Austin wasn't expecting that. It was a great play on Talib's part. It was total deception. Only Stephen McGee wouldn't have made that throw because he would have hesitated and triple pumped before throwing it.

I agree on Jenkins, people may say we need to win now so we need to keep him but from what I'm seeing we may not even make the playoffs so keeping him now and losing him at the end of the year due to free agency seems like bad management. They still have a few weeks to make a decision but if the wheels start coming off I say trade him for a decent draft pick.

The game was definitely herky-jerky and definitely sloppy offensively. After watching a couple other games this week, though, that's not as unusual as it would have been at one point. Teams are winning games with 13+ penalties right now, and even good offensive teams like the Packers look jerky with the game flow interrupted every third down with a yellow flag on one team or another.

As for the SEA loss, there's no explaining away the mistakes that put us into the big hole at the beginning of that game. What happened after was pretty typical of what happens on the losing end of a slugfest, though. I don't think it was indicative of a particular set of problems with this team. The real issues that have to be addressed are the false starts, the drops, the negative plays, yes...Romo can't press and get careless with the ball, and the ST (especially punt team) gaffes.

That's a long enough list without resorting to pretending that we've got the worst OL in the history of ever or that our HC suddenly can't coach after two games against good defenses where the offense struggles mightily.

At the end of the day, though, we're 2-1, with a good shot of going 3-1 into the bye, and with plenty of room for improvement that isn't necessarily tied to changing personnel (though getting Costa, Rat, and even Kowalski back could all help). I'll take it and be patient for a bit until we get a better sense how the season is going to shake out.

Do you really think this is Tony's fault? Or should we put it all on the offensive line?

I just happened to notice this little condescending comment. I didn't ask for your encouragement, nor do I require it. I record the games regardless of whether I upload them to youtube and post them on this forum. I just don't take the time to edit them because a) I'm lazy... and b) I don't like watching Cowboys games in shortcut format...

The only reason I post them at all here is to do people a favor that might want to see the entire game minus commercials, or the ones that didn't get to see it, certainly not because I enjoy having my youtube accounts banned or seek your approval. I was doing it long before you joined this forum.

Anyway, I really don't see why you felt the need to take a jab at me in your 'writeup'. What was the point? If you don't use or watch my videos, then don't click on the link. Pretty simple, no?

Totally dead on about Witten, the lack of practice time early is what's killing him and consequently is what's making the offense look more anemic than it is. Six drops from what is usually our most reliable receiving target kills our momentum and I think has actually cost us at least 14 points over the last 2 games. I know we won the Bucs game but 23 to 10 sounds like a more well rounded team effort to me than 16 to 10. In the Seattle game I know we lost by 20 but at the end of the half we were only down one possession if we get a TD there and go into halftime with a lead that changes the game. So really despite the play of the O-line I don't think this offense is too far away from being quite serviceable. Also slightly disturbed about Tony starting each of the first three games with a turnover but Tony's been through that before he'll fix it.

Keep them coming Kilyin we appreciated your efforts and speedy delivery. Some have no clue what it takes to do what you do and obviously most of the zone disagrees with him. I can tell you that your efforts are seen both nationally and internationally minutes after you are posting.

I appreciate your videos, Kilyin, and I watch them. You're one of the very meaningful contributors to this board.

Let me second the appreciation, Kilyin. But let me also say that, while Emperor definitely stepped in it a bit there, I don't think he meant that comment to sound insulting or condescending. I think he was just pointing out that the posts were duplicative. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think it was intended to come off as a shot at your (very much appreciated) contributions.

Opinions of what is and what isn't in regard to a game is what drives boards like this one. It is the meat that sustains the daily fare here.

But invariably there will be opinions passed off as expert analysis. This isn't to suggest these are barren posts with no insight. But more and more the press, who is vilified, is being supplanted by a fan making assessments of the game.

Again, these sometimes bear fruit. So it isn't a waste to read them.

But like all boards there is a caste system here of those who believe they have the answers versus those who simply post their opinions.

The rancor comes when people who are just fans start to toss out asides and lay claim to a higher understanding and more football knowledge than others.

I find this to be high comedy.

The self importance and hubris displayed by people who watch a game on TV, and don't even see the entire field at the snap of the ball, then come here and ridicule others for what they saw or believe, is a reality show unto itself.

It is probably ironic that the team's mascot is a Cowboy, because Cowboys, as everyone knows, ride horses.

There are the usual bunch who ride their horses.

Then there are the ones who profess their advanced understanding that elevates them above all others.

I guess you could say when they ride, they crawl up on their high horse.

Kilyin, we all love your videos and appreciate your obvious effort to do this.

I dont think Emperor meant anything negative by his comments, sometimes emails come out not quite the way you had meant them to come out.

You know, I thought about playing this tactfully, but I'm more ticked off than disappointed with your response. It's probably from the five hours of sleep today; I'm sure of it.

I don't use or watch your videos? Are you kidding me? Remember that Cowboys-Giants video I made the day before the game?

It took me all day to make. Thanks to Kilyin putting up some of the videos from which I got the footage.

I could have just uploaded the quotes from Garrett, Romo, and Ware without any pictures and had the same reaction. Like Jerry, I'm ready to kick the New York Giants' at-money.

http://cowboyszone.com/forums/dallascowboys.php?t=242101

Recognize your name? Recognize the gratitude I gave you? Oh, but I didn't know back then that you didn't need it from me. Otherwise, I wouldn't have even said thank you. I would have just lifted the footage as though I somehow came up with the video using a toaster and seven newt tails.

That's not the first time I've ever praised you for your work. I've always been appreciative of it. Quit playing the victim card like I attacked you or have always hated your work. Here's another instance where I did the same thing:

The Emperor;4676339 said:
Please don’t take for granted their work. Unlike others here, myself included, who give you opinions and recaps of the game using other media, hairic and Kilyn give you the game. They give you all the facts you need to draw your own conclusions and make your own write-ups.

I even praised you in this very thread in the original post. "Kilyin does a good job instantly posting the interviews or segments from the Sunday morning chat shows and also NFL Network specials." I don't even watch TV anymore because I know that you'll have whatever big highlight or whatever big interview the Zone is talking about.

I do appreciate what you do, Kilyin. And I do know what it's like to have a video slashed by the perverts at Youtube when all you want to do is inform and entertain fellow fans, not make one red cent off the process. Back in 2008 before training camp, I made a 9-part video defense of Tony Romo called "The Number Nine Thesis." The title was a take off of Martin Luther's famous Ninety-five Theses. Anyway, within a week, the perverts at Youtube slashed the first video, making the rest of the video essay incongruous. I spent a whole ****ing month making that video to educate fans that Romo wasn't a "choker" and not to believe the mediots' lies. What happened? It got slashed.

All of that work for nothing. Only about 1,000 people saw it before the first part of the nine-parter was gone. That was just one video. I can't imagine what it would be like to lose a whole channel.

I really do feel sorry for you on that. I saw that last night and had great sympathy for you. It's really a tragedy in the Cowboys underground media when someone loses their Youtube channel. I remember when bbgun lost his the first time. All of that stuff from the 1970's was wiped out. I liked those old game highlights. I've seen it happen to others too. Regardless of the footage and what era it's from, that's our history right there. Those are unique views that won't be part of the historical narrative the mediots will sell us on a commemorate DVD in 15 years. You're part of that busting of narrative and giving us the straight footage. And I thank you for that.

I know how hard it is for you to make those videos, even if you "are lazy" and don't edit them. You said it; not me. It's got to be a wench to upload that 15-20 videos you do for one game.

You know what? If you want to keep making the game tapes, that's your business. I just don't want you to feel like no one cares, not even me, because I do and so do others. Look at how some people have flown to your defense when they perceived you were being attacked. The fact is I don't use your game tapes to review the games. I don't. I have a slow laptop from 2007 that I have to keep plugged in because the battery port went out over a year ago. I don't have a fast, sleek computer to watch every single video you post when giving us the game. It doesn't fit with my lifestyle. Sorry, and I'm sorry you think that means I hate your work or what you do.

Now, it is interesting, because I do use your game tapes later in the season or afterwards when I need highlights. It's just during the season I prefer to go in a different direction.

Idgit had it right. I inartfully phrased it, maybe. But I didn't at all insult you or spit on what you do. And I even admitted in one of those threads I supplied that what I do will never come near what you do. I give opinions and mock analysis. You give us the game, which is all the information we need to evaluate the team.

If you still think I'm some cazzo, so what? I'm not going to lose any sleep since I hardly get any as it is. The only thing I don't want you to do is keep believing lies, falsehoods, or misconceptions after I've told you the truth.

Does anyone even read the Emperor's little writeups anymore? Its shameless plug after ******** theory after shameless plug.

Why read this drivel when you could be watching Kilyin's videos?

:D
