Importance of Rolando McClain

We absolutely need McClain in this game. Lacy is a beast and McClain is the one guy we have who can take him down one on one on a regular basis. Lacy has made a living this year breaking tackles and gaining yards after contact. McClain will be vital in limiting those extra yards that he tends to get.

The problem is he has been dinged up lately, and that doesn't make me feel good going against a back like Lacy.

I heard yesterday on the radio that the Cowboys were undefeated when he didn't play.

I can believe it. To me he comes across as a Ware-type player; he gets too much credit from his teammates. I believe when he is on the field they look to him but when he is not they look to each other.

I heard that too. I found it surprising. I know in some games that he left for a series or two the defense completely fell apart for a bit.

While Rolando definitely needs to refine his skills, he's still one our better players and one of the few that makes solid solo tackles. With a bruiser RB like Lacy on the field we need that kind of stopping power to answer.

Kind of like saying we won most of our games this year with Sean Lee on the sideline. Ro McClain is a beast of a player and one you want on our defense every chance you can get, if he does not play we will just man up like Spencer, Carter, and the rest of the vets have been doing. Hitchens was really a great fourth rd pickup for this team and we are lucky he has that Sean Lee football mentality. At the end of the game there are no excuses. Enjoy the ride fans this is the playoffs and I am fully behind whomever is on the field.

I've climbed off the Ro McClain hype train - he's good sometimes but I feel like he became a bit streaky and undependable after a really strong start.

WITH THAT SAID - I agree completley. If he has a major strength, it's against the running game. We will have enough problems wiht Rogers in the game - I would just as soon find a way to shut down lacy with 7, and McCLain is a big piece of that.

I'm off the train as well. His play seems to have fallen off a bit. But like you said, his strength is in the running game, especially against bruisers like Lacy.

When McClain is trying to run someone down from behind he looks really slow. So i don't think we lose much at all in coverage if he doesn't play.

Right on par for cowboyszone giving up on a player so soon.

Said nobody here. His play is still solid, but he is not a player without some problems. Right now the combination of Hitchens and Carter is playing very very well. McClain is great against the run, but he has injury concerns, a couple of tackle issues per game, and is just an unknown. There is not doubt that he was outstanding to start the season, which was a great surprise, but he's come back down to being very good. I like him and hope it lasts, and agree with the thread that we need him for this game because tackling Lacy is really a good matchup for him. But I'm not going to build a mythical picture of a guy who is right on the edge of being Novarro Bowman either. He's a good player who has more bad history than good, clearly has shown some ability and can help us win.

That's cool. I hope he kills it against the Packers. Maybe you all will jump on his bandwagon again.

i think his physicality could be used big time in a game like this. When you have thick backs like Lacy, Starks and Kuhn, 55 in the middle to stop them in their tracks is important.

Were Ro and Lacy ever teammates at Alabama? If so...I am going to bet there is no way Ro wants to miss this game!

Josh 'Pot Roast' Brent..........make a mess out of the OL.

They need to form tackle.

Remember Marion Barber............he made a living on yards after contact when he first hit the scene.

That is until someone figured out if you take out his legs he's going down. I literally think it was against the Giants.........IIRC.

My two cents.

Brent & McClain I think are the most important parts of stopping Lacy.

Roland McClain flashed big time this season. The key thing going forward is consistency.

McClain ended up as the 74th ranked tackler in the NFL this season with 81 tackles.

Most of the top-end 4-3 MLBs have in the 130s to 140s in tackles.

Next year, assuming he is playing for the Cowboys, will be all about consistency and being a full-time player.

OK, no matter how manys times I reads the two comments they seem to confradict each other.
can some smart mans or womans step up and esplain the two comments and how they agree with each other? It is too early in the day to think straight and I need some sustenance to think clearly and adequartely.
