In my opinion by positions:

QB - Need a better backup but BETTER than league average (top 10)
OL - Overrated but BETTER than league average (top 10)
TE - Witten is in the top 10 in receptions, so still BETTER than league average (top 10)
WR - Solid group, way BETTER than league average (top 5)
RB- Zeke is a horse, way BETTER than league average (top 5)
DL - Group is under performing but getting better so BETTER than league average (top 15)
LB - Also under performing but this is a dynamic group so BETTER than league average (top 10)
CB - A deep group, BETTER than league average (top 15)
S - Worst group on the team, way WORSE than league average (bottom 5)
K/P/ST - Maher is unreliable and coverage has not been good so WORSE than league average (bottom 10)

If everything was perfect you would want a ball hawking S, monster run stuffer DT, better depth at OT and a better backup QB. That is not a huge shopping list.

I know the HC is an absolute slug but this roster is very, very solid. Thoughts?

You're way off on some of these

DL is easily one of the top-5 groups in the league, especially with Bennett.

The WRs are poor, outside of Amari. They lead the league in drops (or did last I knew).

The other thing with this type of ranking is that there's no discernible difference between 10 and, say, 25. i.e. Witten being top-10 in catches doesn't mean that the group is better than whoever you'd say is 25th. On-field, there's no difference between having the 25th-best safeties and the 10th-best.

its pretty obvious that its what you stuffing a prime time Safety or run stuffing DL.. thats NOW.. ironic Xavier woods got DPOTW lol maybe Thompson and another safety gets afew games to shine now that Heath is banged up.

For the future?

- Better starting SS

I mean even the Cowboys seem to acknowledge this given they took a big swing at Adams.

- Better depth at DT

DE looks to be in really good shape. DT, not so much. Collins is inconsistent, Covington is a JAG, Woods is decent as a 1T, Hill?? LOL. I'd like to see a real dominant 1T. And with Collins a FA, we may need a legit 3T next year too.

- Better depth at OT

Fleming is ehhhhhh. And with Smith and his injury history, they probably need to start thinking about a long term option at LT. OG is fine and will be even better when McGovern is back. I think he's going to be pretty good.

- I think they will need a better slot WR

Cobb has shown flashes at times but he's looking long in the tooth. You are set with Cooper and Gallup outside. Just need to find a better slot WR.

In a perfect world you wouldn’t be asking this question after it has already been answered hundreds of times over the last few years but here goes

other than GM and HC and DC and OC we need

1T DT
Real top tier FS
Top tier TE

Better head coach, dynamic TE (JArwin could be that guy but Witten), Better SS.

Dallas is loaded. They just don't have the mentality. The month of October ruined their season.

Saints, Packers, or 49ers will likely get the 1st round bye because of it. October ruined our chances of anything special.

We need to shop for a new HC, ST coordinator, and maybe Defensive coordinator more than anything. I bet you all of these "problems" would disappear with better and newer coaching...

And yet this team hasn’t beaten any decent competition. This is the same padded stat that got DeMarcus Lawrence paid.

Gallup is not anywhere close to Poor.

I think cornerback is an underrated position of need. Decision needs to be made on Byron Jones & Anthony Brown this year. Then next year, Chido & Jourdan Lewis are in contract years.

The defense was dominant against the Saints.

This noise about strength of schedule is so stupid. 20 of 32 teams in the league are terrible. Nobody plays against "decent competition."

In a perfect world we wouldn't have 34 contracts ending at the same time. So to sit here and say what we need for next year depends on who we can resign. This team, with all of those contracts ending at once, is about to be blown up.

Perfect time for a coaching change IMO. I say that because most new to the job headcoaches will come in with a different philosophy. Leading to a lot of player personnel changes to match that philosophy. So with only 27 players on the books after this year, it's a perfect time for a change in coaching.

I'm thinking they'll just hire/ promote Kris Richard.

Let's go all in on this year and fix those problems now.

If this DL can provide the pressure and havoc it did Mon night then I’d say a ball hoggin Safety. But everything begins up front on defense. If we can’t apply pressure we got nothing.

Coaching and the overall happy go-lucky (make it a great day) atmosphere is the biggest problem with this team. The talent is there to win any game but it is still a country club like Jimmy stated. It will be the ultimate undoing come playoff time (if they even make it). Does anyone believe the atmosphere in New England is like that? I'm pretty sure every player fears for their life if they are penalized. LOL
