In case we don't pick up a veteran WR in FA this

off-season, and we will have to rely on the draft for a WR to make SOME sort of impact, there is one silver lining - perhaps.

Assuming T Glenn can last at least 1/2 the season (or maybe even longer if we're fortunate), it will give the potential 2008 draft pick and guys like Stanback a bit more time to mature.

Again, it's not ideal to have to depend upon Glenn to be our number 2 guy given the status of his knees, but if he can last for at least a few games, it would help us a bit.

I know rookie WRs don't typically make a quick impact in the pro game, but guys like Gonzolez (sp?) of the Colts played pretty well as the season progressed. Even young players like S Smith of the Giants were really helping out their team in the playoffs.

We just need some more time to groom our potential draft pick and players like Stanback. And unless we do a trade for R Williams/Fitz, at this stage I don't see another veteran WR out there who is still available in FA who we'd want.

My short answer:

I am all for someone stepping up and grabbing the #2 WR spot by the horns.

I don't really want us to pick up a true FA at all this offseason because then we lose our compensatory picks for Julius, Davis, and hopefully Nate Jones.

Wouldn't that be nice. I'd be happy if we could draft another Harper type player. I'm getting more and more concerned about the WR position.

You can like Fritz all you want but the reality is the Cowboys simply don't have the cap space to get him. Also frankly, Fritz would be a fool to leave the Cards cause he's got their balls by the tail with all the money they owe him.

Yep... me too.

TO - love him or hate him.... without him the offense doesnt GO.
He directly or indirectly affects it. He has been worth every penny. Now that he is getting a little older we need to get him some help.

They might not have the cap space right this second...but they can create enough.

Now my question is, unless he is all about the money, why would anyone be a fool and want to stay in Arizona? Don't you think that might have something to do with the fact that he won't restructure his deal with them?

Glenn should be back at full speed and our young guys have another year under their belts. I anticipate that we will finally draft a WR in the first round so that should give us another young talented guy.

We don't need to trade for anyone nor do we need to settle for some scrub FA. If Glenn is not at 100% or gets hurt again then I'd rather see us use Hurd, Austin, StanbacK, and whatever rookie we select. If they can't play then it would be better to know that as soon as possible.

Now if Fitzgerald or Williams could be had relatively cheap then I am all for making that deal but their teams seem to be asking a lot for them and I would rather see what we can do on our own.

Yes, that's what I think as well.

Unless Fitz or Williams somehow become available, we're going with our young WRs, Glenn (fingers crossed), and a top Draft pick.

Don't understand how any thinks Glenn will be back to full speed this season. He spent the entire 07 season working to come back so he'd be ready for the playoffs and didn't contribute at all. In fact despite the glowing talk coming from team practices, the reality is that in the last game of the season, it was clear that Glenn still couldn't cut. In fact one of the announcers mentioned Romo's comment about his concern in throwing the ball to Glenn because Glenn couldn't cut.

It certainly possible that, even w/o cartridge in his knee, Glenn could contribute but how much and how long is debatable. We simply cannot take the risk of him not contributing or getting hurt; we gotta start drafting quality WRs. If Jerry doesn't want to use any high draft picks to draft a WR, then signing Romo as our franchise QB is for naught if TO goes down & Jerry will have no one to blame but himself if we don't win a SB this year.

I am off the Crayton band wagon. We need to actually DO SOMETHING about the WR position.

Millions against the cap for a WR with zero catches on the season - a terrific reason to cling to this Glenn fantasy.

We might be able to get Jerry Rice for a discount and have him waste a roster spot.

first, we wont get any compensation pick for keith davis if he signs with someone else, due to the fact, he was a free agent.

next, we should get compensation picks for julius jones, reeves and nate jones, theres another player i think, but cant place him right now, and those compensation picks depends on if the cowboys sign any free agents.

then, you have to add in that the cowboys dont have awhole lot of money in free agency, i think right now we have about 3, 800,000; and we or the cowboys still havent guaranteed romo's contract which would give us another 4.5 million added to that, so untill the cowboys clear up some cap money by signing hamlin to lessen his cap hit, romo's guaranteed money, i dont think you will see the cowboys sign any free agents

i think the cowboys have in mind some trades, and moving in the draft either up or down, to draft certain players, then also u might see them go after roy williams wr from detriot or deangelo hall or pacman jones, but i think that wont be until draft time and money cleared up for free agency.

just my thoughts, now i know everyone is and wanting a wr, and i agree, we need one bad with young talent, which i think terry glenn is done, he cant cut, and if you watched him on the field, he was falling down when he tried to cut, so i dont see him coming back,

my surprise wr is the kid from applachicha state, he is a good punt and kickoff returner, and he is even faster than desean jackson,

i think in the draft, we need a young cb, a running back to spell barber, for a one two punch, a big nasty young og, a big nasty nose tackle aloong with a wr, and possibly a bigger fullback, along with a safety or cb-safety to take over if we lose keith davis, then we will be set for years to come,

i wouldnt be surprised either if jerry jones uses his draft choices in 2009 next year in this draft, by some package deal or something,

Genius! If we can get Fitz for cheap...we should do it! Outstanding work!

Uh, yes we will. That's what Compensatory picks are all about. We can get as many as 4 Compensatory picks for Julius Jones, Jacques Reeves, Keith Davis, and Nate Jones. We lose one of those for every UFA that we sign who was not relased by the previous team who held his rights. if they simply let him become a FA we lose a pick. If they release him to make him a FA, we don't.

His name is Keith Davis.

Once again, wrong. Romo's contract is already done.

Oh gawd....I am praying TGlenn finally give it up and packs it in. If he is the Cowboys second receiver again, than we are in deep trouble.

Our comp picks for any of them won't be more then a 7th rounder so that shouldn't be a factor.
