Notre Dame had just embarrassed Miami 33-17 in the Sun Bowl, and Leonard Hankerson sat with teammates at a news conference on the final day of 2010.

Hankerson’s six catches for 71 yards had given him the UM single-season record for receiving yards with 1,156 — an afterthought on this solemn afternoon. Someone asked him what he would take away from his four years at UM. Before “Hank’’ finished his answer, he put a towel over his face and began to weep.
