In times like these

It's times like these when my long held beliefs about this organization (Jones and Garrett in particular) are reaffirmed. I have said many times that the WAY in which Garrett is trying to win....can work under certain conditions...and the conditions in Dallas will NEVER be right for the WAY in which they are trying to win

First of all...let's go over the WAY which he is trying to win. He wants to make it a tough man contest. Be more physical than the guy in front of you...if that succeeds....we win. If not...there is always next Sunday...next off season....next year....etc Garrett is the WRONG coach for this type of football. A head coach successful in his attempt to win this way needs to be a strict disciplinarian and supreme motivator. Garrett is neither of these. And the environment for him to be this type of coach does not exist because of the Jones boys. The Jones boys are the face of this franchise....the players DO NOT....and HAVE NEVER feared this head coach....which is why we truly have no chance with the culture in Dallas.

Secondly...to win consistently with this brand of football takes a MAJOR toll on your team. This means you have to have tremendous depth. This is something we had in the early 90s. This is NOT something we have today. And the depth goes beyond just the players....we had depth in the coaching staff. From Zampesee to Norv Turner...to Dave Wanstedt....to Butch Davis...we lost coaches left and right...and still continued to win. Heck we were so deep with players AND coaches...we won with Barry Switzer on cruise control. Who on this coaching staff has ever won ANYTHING. Think about this....who on this coaching staff has ever won ANYTHING!!!!!!!

Lastly, to win in this fashion you need a stout dominant defense. I don't even need to tell you that we do not have that. When your strategy year after year is to keep the defense off the field as much as possible....that tells you the confidence level ANYONE in the building has in this defense. The Triplets from those great 90s teams get all of the publicity...but the defense from the early 90s were great! Fast physical LBers. DL that could stuff the run AND get after the QB. And a secondary that was physical AND could cover. This defense intimidates no one. The last player..that actually scared another team...was #31..Roy Williams. And people ran him out of town...but I would take a presence like his on this defense ANY DAY. This ENTIRE secondary can go seasons with only 4 or 5 picks...Roy could get you that by himself.

So as we start to line up a new season of excuses because we have a gimpy guard and limited center....I just sit back in amazement at how Jerry continues to sell hope. And cringe when I realize Nick Foles won more playoff games last year....than this organization has won in the last 23 years combined. When people really stop to think...and let that sink in....maybe....just maybe...you Garret and Jerry Jones apologists will come out of the closet and just admit...you are in it for the entertainment value. Because teams are losing players left and right...and all they are doing is getting the next guy ready. Doug Pederson did not say " we will get them next year" when Wentz went down. He got Nick Foles ready to do the unthinkable. Pederson...a 2nd year head coach....showed the sense or urgency that a hungry coach is supposed to show.

But in Dallas...EVERYONE is comfortable....and as fans.....we are the biggest reason EVERYONE is comfortable. Why you ask? Because WE....the FANS...have become comfortable with mediocrity. Sean Lee gets hurt...and we cannot stop anybody...and we accept that because we are led to believe this defense goes as Sean Lee goes. And if that is true...then shame on EVERYONE in Dallas that allows the loss of one player on defense...to force you to cancel the season. Zeke misses games....and we look like a high school outfit! And why does this continue? Because the architect of this franchise is COMFORTABLE. And you would be too...if the value of you franchise keeps going up...in SPITE of the fact that you have 2 playoff wins in 22+ years. I will stop for now...because I have long since gave up on this regime....I just needed to let off some steam after reading the doom and gloom (probably justified based on the track record of this regime) people are expressing because we lost our starting Center!

You're dead wrong if you think the fans are comfortable and ok with mediocrity (especially here at CZ). If anything, I see more fans getting sick and tired of the direction this franchise has gone in the past so many years.

You know, you could have just said.......Garrett Sucks....

Nice and simple. An I bet you would have got a lot of...likes...I mean enough to rival Risen Star, you could surpass him in the ...likes...department....

well...he does stink...he is entitled and privileged. He had never been a head coach at ANY level...and his FIRST...FIRST head coaching gig...is the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys? And he has had 8 years to prove he was a diamond in the rough, but 1 playoff win in 8 years suggests there are 500 coaches in this country that could have done that given 8 years!

You shouldn't diss the process. We are only halfway through.

I know we have become numb to Garrett, and we've become accustomed to the Jones boys, but let's not do that and remember how bad Jones & Garrett has treated us over the years. I literally despise those people but I love my Dallas Cowboys.

So does this mean you won't be sending Garrett a Christmas card this year? Just want to make sure, couldn't tell if you liked him or not.

Oh please.....I know some don't wanna hear this but remember the Eagles lost their starting All-Pro QB, LT and LBer last year and STILL won Super Bowl. Not one team out there feel sorry for the Cowboys and quite frankly I wouldn't either. Show some balls or fight, line up the next guy, and get ready to play.

this X 1000. But this regime has always told us "so and so missed games, and that derailed our season"...and WE have bought it. Bellicheck won 11 games with Matt Cassell....and we could not win games, score points or barely get 1st downs with him. I was so done with Garrett after that debacle...and the Jones should have been too.

I used to LOVE them...but the Jones boys have sapped my energy. I will watch. I will cheer. But this entire regime makes it harder and harder each year. The fact that a loyal soldier like Witten....left them high and dry at a moments notice....tells you everything you need to know...about how he views the chances of this outfit. And I am one he thought Witten should have had his snaps reduced years ago.

@bbailey423 great thread
Well thought out and reasoned
Unfortunately on this board, destined for the Rant Zone
Reasonable minds can agree to disagree...but it's nice to see when someone else can see what is going on. We don't try to trick them. And I am fine with that. But with the salary cap, lack of depth and player movement...being more physical than the next team is not a long term strategy. This brand of football requires that you avoid injuries. Which is impossible in an era where the players are bigger, stronger and faster than they were in the 90s. The Cowboys OL in the 90s dwarfed opponents. They did not get hurt...they hurt people. Strahan said guys would come down with a cold the week they know they would have to play Larry Allen. Them days are long gone. Who on this team intimidates anybody. How can you attempt to play an intimidating brand of football...without any intimidators?

These are the Times that Try Men's Souls !!!

By the way that wasn't my quote. It was that guys back in the olden days.

We have no idea how our offense will look this season other than we will run. Defense looks like it will be flying all over the field and we look like we may blitz more. I'm actually excited about the unknown. At this point everything is speculation.

you lost me at Roy Williams. He wasn't run out of town. He couldn't cover. Defenses figured that out & targeted him repeatedly thus he was released because he was a liability.
