In year 2, what do you need to see from our Head Coach?

If they don't make the playoffs...the whole damn staff needs to go....Blow this thing up and start over. I keep looking @ this roster.....the salary cap......and honestly....I'm a complete mess.

And when I say staff...that Includes Stephen and Wil McClay. The track record speaks for itself.

How many more draft busts do we need to see....that this administration is poorly put together....Poorly run....Bad evaluations. Bad @ putting a coaching staff together. I have my doubts about this coaching staff...and the direction this is heading. The 3-4 defense is dead. Has been for years.....Got a bad feeling this new kid defensive coordinator is about to find out the hard way.

All 4 teams that played in the championship games either play a straight 3/4 New england and denver or a hybrid of the 2 in seattle in LA. Its not the Parcels 3/4 anymore with 3 road blocks holding blockers so the linebackers have to make every play.

I’m fine with him not being Mr nice guy to his staff. He needs to hold their feet to the fire a little bit, IMO.

Only thing I expect is for him to tone down all the "Bro! " activities (paintball, etc) and focus on football. I can't be the only one who doesn't give a damn if all the players become besties with their HC off the field. If they can't get their crap together on the field then heads need to roll.

The problem is Jerry, though. When the leader of the franchise puts out the vibe that results on the field don't matter, it tends to trickle down to everyone under him.

I love this post and totally agree you can always do team activities but come on some of the stuff was a little questionable

I dont get the shotty hate - from a game management POV he did a pretty good job last year - there were many fewer moments of frustration vs with MM. As a head coach I wasn't upset with him at all last year, if they had a better defense and coordinator we might all have been talking about how he made the playoffs in his first year.

Disparaging him at this point or acting like he shouldnt be there is dumb, he won the job (like it or not) and he did pretty well last year as a 1st year hc.



Now to answer the question - I expect him to add more accountability to the team - there is still the lingering penalty issue which should start to work out as they swap out players that dont fit...thats the biggest thing I am looking for

He won the job? You don't know that. Knowing Jerry's history of hiring coaches since 2010 suggests Schnotty was a comfort hire, and he was already on staff so it made the decision even easier. I highly doubt Schnotty blew the doors off of any other candidate, but feel free to believe whatever you want.

He won the job - i didnt say I agreed with the hiring process but he did win the job (aka he was the hire based on jerrys criteria)

Huge overreaction. It isn't smart to not give coaches a chance.

There will be a big overturn on the defense roster and an entirely new defensive coaching staff.

We all hope they can turn around an historically bad defense. Going from that to in the playoffs is a huge step.

He didn't baby Blue. He showed tuff love, and made him ride pine until the last game of the year. I'm going to give it 3 years counting last year. That seems like a reasonable amount of time to turn the defense around. We look sloppy in any phase by year 3 and it's curtains.

I’d rather just see the results.

This man deserves three to four years to fix the mess he inherited, and it’s only fair to give him a total mulligan for Matt Eberflus and that defense hurting his offense, along with the things in his first year that made people question him. And about the whole “he’s too friendly, he’s a players’ coach, he likes to joke around and do odd things”—isn’t that exactly what Mike Vrabel was doing the other day? I saw a post of him messing around with an offensive lineman, trying to make him block him.

That’s hands-on coaching. Some coaches do it that way, some are more like Tom Landry, and some are in between. Having good relationships and being playful in the locker room and on the field doesn’t make him any less of a coach. People seem to want some guy with a whip who yells, throws things, and kicks players out of practice, but that doesn’t work with today’s athletes. In any league today, that’ll get you fired in a heartbeat.
