He does everything else, LB, blocker, rusher, all ST units.Maybe he is another super secret pass rushing weapon.

Let his Fbs blitz ,lolGarrett loves his FBs. Special teams is more important than a pass rush I guess.
A 2.5m security blanket for LG......shoulda traded him for anything.....GB released Sitton and he was their starterHe was inactive last year in the games that Collins started. He would have to be able to play Center in order to be active.
I can understand Keith Smith being active. In a pinch, he can be an emergency LB. Rod Smith has no chance to get playing time at RB. There has to be someone already active that can give you what you get from Smith on special teams.Garrett loves his FBs. Special teams is more important than a pass rush I guess.
I don't have a problem with it.A 2.5m security blanket for LG......shoulda traded him for anything.....GB released Sitton and he was their starter
Rod is the guy that stands back there with the returner on Kick-Offs. They have to have him to tell the Kick Returner when it's OK to bring the ball out of the endzone or to take the touchback.I can understand Keith Smith being active. we are either a draft team and plays rookie deal guys in key roles or we overpay for JAGs like Leary, Hanna, Wilcox, Beasley, Carr, Gachkar and DMC and forgo any shot at starsI don't have a problem with it.
Going into training camp, keeping Romo healthy was the number 1 priority. If paying a premium for a quality backup OL was going to help in that area, then it was probably a good plan.
At this point, he will be most valuable in a trade when a contending team loses a starter. Obviously that would need to happen before the trade deadline.

The comedic part of it is that they pay a premium for a backup OG but they have Doug Free starting at RT. They really need to move Free to TE. I think he could block slightly better than Witten who really struggled to block in game 1.

Most teams have 3 dedicated ST players:
Kicker
Punter
Deep Snapper
The Cowboy have 4 dedicated ST players:

In a few years, all teams will have one and they'll name it the Rod Smith position. Actually, they'll probably name it the 45 after Rod's jersey number much like Buddy Ryan named the 46 defense after the jersey number of Safety Doug Plank.
The funny thing is that Rod was the 1st player to touch the ball today. He must be trying to live up to his future fame. This belongs in CowboysZone's member post Hall of Fame.
I agree with that !!! Just waiting for him to add a 3rd !!Garrett loves his FBs. Special teams is more important than a pass rush I guess.
