It's pretty rare that a really crappy movie produces one of the great speeches or dialogues in movie history, but that is one example. Any Given Sunday is an awful, awful movie but Pacino knocked that scene out of the freaking park.

I used to think the same about Any Given Sunday back when it first came out, but I've seen it a few times since, and I now think it's among the top football movies ever made.

This phenomenon is commonly referred to as - "The Pacino Factor".

Pacino + Cowboys = Awesome

All you have to do is look at my avatar to know how much I love Pacino. He and Emmitt are #1a and #1b on my all-time mancrush list. :D

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.....................

I love the ****ing Cowboys. No matter how many times they let me down, I will be there hoping they wont let me down again. No matter how many times Tony messes up, I will remember how many times he has carried this team.

I will now go to sleep, and tomorrow, no matter how hungover I am, and I will be, I will try to remember that I wrote this, but I'm sure I won't. Then I will see a little red star on the left side of a thread and realize I posted something while intoxicated. I will then click on said thread with a little trepidation hoping that I did not write something that will get me banned. I will then try to seduce my wife. But I will ultimately fail. She will be mad at me for some reason or another. On one hand, I will be dissapointed that she is mad, in the other, I will be proud of myself for knowing that I was probably pretty funny last night or else she wouldn't be as mad.

Anyway, I love the ****ing Cowboys.

Any Given Sunday is a very typical Oliver Stone movie. Some parts brilliant, some parts overdone. I actually think Foxx is not very good here and that hurt the movie. I think he's an incredible actor now, but back then he was still developing his craft. The Modine vs. James Woods angle wasn't really needed. Not that it doesn't happen, but it was like cramming in another storyline into the movie.

What's funny to me about football movies, is I think every movie ever...outside of The Longest Yard....has at least 1 game where it's played in the pouring rain. Not sure why writers and directors think that is important.

I love the speech though. To me, it's a 'grown ups' motivation speech. It's about mistakes and regrets. It's about getting old and how things are not what they used to be. And realizing that we revolve our lives and our judgments too much around the grand picture and overlook all of the little things in life. And how if you fight for every one of those little things...you'll really be living life to its fullest.

I agree completely.

He wasn't the actor he is now but he had some great moments in the movie, particular the scene when Al and he had the confrontation. That was a great scene in my opinion.

The Modine vs. James Woods angle wasn't really needed. Not that it doesn't happen, but it was like cramming in another storyline into the movie.

Agreed, it looked like he put in the scene because Woods needed work and he owed him a favor.

Yep, cliches and Hollywood goes hand and hand.
