I was getting bored watching Florida and Cincy play so I went over to Pro football focus and did a little digging on our offensive linemen.

Player.......... snaps.......... overall rank.......... pass protection rank.......... run blocking rank.......... qb sacks.......... qb hits.......... qb pressures
Andre Gurode 1017.......... tied 8th......................... 24th......................... 3rd.............................. 2.................... 4.................... 10
Kyle Kosier ..1022............. 9th............................. 22nd......................... 8th.............................. 1.................... 7.................... 12
Leonard Davis 1022 ........15th............................. 65th.......................... 6th............................... 3.................... 4.................... 20
Marc Colombo 544.......... 18th............................. 27th.......................... 26th.............................. 1.................... 4.................... 13
Doug Free... 495............ 25th............................. 33nd.......................... 21st............................. 1.................... 2.................... 15
Flozel Adams 1005......... 47th............................. 62nd.......................... 6th................................ 7.................... 9.................... 31

Just like in Theogt's thread http://cowboyszone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=173492 These stats and rankings are subjective, but I think it is still a pretty good indicator for what we have on the line. Obviously, left tackle is a concern, but that horse has been beaten to death. We need a change at left tackle. I thought Colombo and Free would have had a better run blocking rating. I was all for moving Free to left tackle, but now after seeing his pass blocking rantings has me a little concerned that he can handle the best pass rushers in the league on the left side. Looking at those stats makes me appreciate Romo, that slippery *******.

I would give the kid a bit of a break because he went in fresh to a position he has not played before and has been steadily improving. I also think he was initially having some trouble judgeing the depth and angle of his drops but he has gooten better over time. He had a bit of a tough time against the Giants but since has been improving regularly and I think he has been very good the last couple of games. Remember that the Saints have CGrant/WSmith at DE and the Skins have ACarter/Orapko so he has been facing some of the better pass rushers in the league and has been superb.

I really have no major worries about Free taking over LT. I really think Flo's lack of athleticism has held us back quite a bit and I am eager to see what him and Free can do getting out to block in open space on screens. I think either are great options pulling.

There will likely be some growing pains but I would say from snap one, the position will have been upgraded with Free over Flo. I wouldn't even keep Flo for depth. Hopefully some desperate GM will fork over a good pick for him - maybe a 3rd rounder.

Gurode is one of the very best in the game. One of the rare slam dunks we've had with drafting linemen this decade.

The fact that Davis was bad in pass protection was well known here on the board.

I think the part that a large part of the board has had a hard time coming to grips with is how bad Flo has been in pass protection this year. He is terrible and he is going to get worse next year. There were some snaps where by the team he was up out of his stance the DE had already turned the corner - Matthrew from GB pulled this trick on him once.

Flozell has always been bad at pass protecting in small stretches and excellent in others.

How many teams offer so little help versus elite pass rushers as we do? Just about none.

Flozell can not handle small shifty speed rushers well at all. It shouldn't be hard to help him those games but we are mighty spoiled in that he can get through 13 or so games of each 16 game season with no help and dominate in the running game while he jumps offsides once per game.

Flo is on the downside and we need to get a new left tackle but Flo is a high caliber blindside player and he has always been taken for granted here. When we do have to double every quality rush end we face we will start to appreciate Flo more.

When a guy weighs more than 100 pounds more than the one across from him he is going to have a speed deficit, that's just life.

Flo was beaten up badly by Matthews and by Elvis Dumerville, both tiny by DL standards but very quick off the ball and fast. Dallas should have enough sense to chip those players like Ware gets chipped 20 times per week.

too bad parcells almost ruined his career. moving him back and forth from guard to center back to guard then back to center

:laugh2: Took exactly one post to see one of those who can't come to grips with it.

Flo's stats also reflect that he sees every team's premiere pass-rusher.

At his age and with his cap hit we would be lucky to get a 5th for Flo.

If you look at LTs for the whole league you will find that giving up 7 sacks in 15 games would put the Hotel in the 10-15 area. Better then average and only a dummy would call it terrible.

Fact of the matter is that the Hotel is the BIGGEST LT in the NFL. When you are that big small quick pass rushers are going to give you trouble because there is no way you can match their quickness at your size. That is one reason Bigg was never all that at LT.

Gurode came in supposedly as a guy who could play C or G equally as well. At the time we had a LOUSY RG and had drafted Johnson at Center. So BP put Gurode at guard and gurode was mediocre. Gurode had played well at center as as a rookie. When it became clear that Johnson was just too weak to do really well at center BP gave Gurode a shot at it and he showed that center was indeed his best position. BUT I must remind people that it took Gurode a while to get his head straight about football in general. BP and others were of the opinion that his good friend Tucker had a lot to do with him not being as concentrated on the game as he should be/ when tucker was tossed Gurode seemed to really get it at lastand on his final shot at Center he blossomed.
