I wanted some hints on listening to music online. I don't want to download it, I just want to find it and listen. No fees no money, just listen and not plug up my hard drive.

Is this possible?

Just use windows media player and do a search for an online radio station.

You can search by genre if need be and then connnect to the station with windows media player so it is streaming.

It still may take up space on your HD in the form of Temp Files but it is nothing illegal so you can not get in trouble for it.

Problem with doing it this way is you are at the mercy of what the station is playing.

If you like a mix of metal today and older stuff...I used to listen to www.knac.com quite a bit and liked it.

...what about if I want to listen to one particular song. As an example I wanted my boys to listen to "Cover of the Rolling Stone" by Dr. Hook how do I get to that song without having to go through downloads, etc?

Lately my wife and I have been having conversations with my two sons and one daughter about tunes we enjoyed as kids. We don't want to buy the music, we just want our kids to listened to the specific song once or twice.

Not sure to be honest with you. There may be places out there like that but I imagine the majority is for downloading and not streaming.

sorry.

One idea is to go to amazon.com and find the artist you want...they normally will have the cds of the artists and will have some of the songs with small clips to hear....they are small clips but better then nothing I guess.

What about Yahoo Launchcast? I've never used them, but I think they do stream according to your music tastes. Have you tried that?

Netscape Radio (Formally Spinner) is a decent option. I say decent because AOL has taken it over and limits you to 2 hours per day (Unless you have an AOL account). Back when it was Spinner you were able to stream 24/7 and it was AWESOME! It was a great way to listen to new artists or pick up on songs that MTV or radio would find out about 6 months later
