Does anyone know who foots the bill when a player needs surgery?

Is the team responsible for payment, or does the player have to have his own insurance pay it?

I'm pretty sure it's the team, through it's own (or league) insurance.

Seems like it'd be like with any job....if you're injured on the job, their insurance will cover it.
