I know it’s WAY early to do a deep dive into the final roster, but this team could be faced with some interesting decisions at roster cutdown time. Dallas has several guys coming off injuries (corner in particular) which will require Dallas to keep the injured players on the roster at final cutdown and then moving them to IR.

Thats going to force Dallas to chop a few guys that it will want to keep this season. The team will often expose late round draft choices or vested veterans that don’t have to clear waivers until they can move the injured players to IR.

Miles Sanders and Javonte Williams might be two of the guys that they expose if necessary. It’s going to be an interesting time as guys like Diggs, Overshown and a few others will definitely be in the hopeful category to be significant contributors this year for the Cowboys.

CJ Goodwin will be one of those. Then signed to the PS. Then activated as needed, until they add him to the 53. Unless some rookie or 2nd year player shows he is a better ST player.
Seig as well, they did this the past few years.
Damon Clark is a possibility, depending how many LB's they keep. And probably if he is claimed, may not be as big of a loss as some may think.

Diggs will start TC on PUP, and probably the season, so he will not count if he stays on PUP.
Players like Overshown possibly, Sam Williams, he should be a go. If not, both of them would be moved to short term IR after the Final Cuts.

Juggling those last few roster spots with injured players is always tricky. I just hope we don't lose someone the Cowboys would have liked to keep long term.

Side note - when will the league ever expand the roster size? It's clear they could easily justify adding at least 2 more players. The players association should have advocating for that with the increase of a longer schedule. They should have told Goodell if you want to add a 17th game there is a need more players.

That will probably, or should addressed with the next CBA. Or if they add an 18th game, that needs to be renegotiated immediately.
Contract is up in 2030.

I just want to know is does this mean the number of players injured/returning from injury status will be used as an excuse again as some used it last year?

Just so I'm prepared is all.

you forget take me to work with you lil buddy duece!!! I think sanders or williams stays to be honest. Just because we drafted Mafah doesn't mean he's a lock to be on the opening game roster

forgot about that clark cat, can we just trade him for an 8th round pick already! Sure your neighbor Quinn needs a LB

Probably the best post in your life!!! i WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree, what's the issue with adding a few more players??? Is it going to hurt revenue or something, you talk about player safety and more games, give the teams more players!!

The players assoc seems more geared to the stars than total players. Expanding the roster spreads out money more. But I think it’s needed with todays schedule and talk if more games and international games

PUP...Players on PUP don't count towards the 53.

Can't participate in any training camp practices.

Can't play the first 6 weeks of the season.

Don't see Overshown playing this season. If he does he won't be a full time player. His injury is worse than many realize.

Goodwin, Sieg, Sanders was most likely being viewed as the emergency PS stash RB anyway.
Even on the slight chance someone picks him up there should be comparable if not better backs floating around at cutdown!
I’m curious how many of the xtra guards they try to hold onto in hopes of trying to trade for a DT with position flex!

They changed the rule a little last year. Now two players can go on IR before the initial 53-man roster is set and still be eligible to return during the season. So two players don't have to be put on the 53 for a day first. Also, one of Williams or Sanders (IMO Williams) will likely be either the starter or at worst in a time share. They won't risk that with whomever that is, The other may not even make the team IF one of the young guys steps up because it's tough to have a #3 RB active on game day that isn't playing much of a role on STs
