Inner Defensive Linemen Still A Weakness

The inside of our defensive line is still a major weakness and it has been for a while. We never adequately addressed this outside of signing Melton off an ACL injury. Crawford just isn't or hasn't been that guy, and Hayden is a JAG no matter who tries to suggest otherwise.

If next to a force, maybe Crawford would be more productive, but next to Hayden? This is seriously a joke, and it won't matter how much resources we put on the outside if we can crash the pocket consistently.

Might be a larger issue on defense than the secondary is.

If the line got consistent pressure, the secondary would get more turnovers. In terms of actual pass coverage, they weren't terrible either.

I agree 100%

Silly to think the Denver/Carolina front 7 does not make their secondary look 10X better. It is no coincidence that the best pass defenses and the best defenses at getting turnovers are also the best defenses at getting pressure.

I would kill to see our pass rush play on the level that Denver's did against Brady yesterday.

I think Crawford is pretty good. He was playing with a bum shoulder most of the year so that affected him a lot. I agree with Hayden, while not total trash, he is not great either, a good rotational guy. I like what I saw from Irving when he was in there. I think we need to address, mid level FA signing or some late draft pics. I wouldn't spend a high pick on a 1 tech in this defense.

not sure if people who think crawford was bad are just ignorant of the fact he played virtually the entire season with one arm, or if they are just plain stupid. hayden needs to be replaced, i dont care what marinelli prioritizes on the dline, its plain to see that we need a run stuffer in there somewhere and someone who can at least create some push in the middle. he doesnt necessarily have to get sacks but we need a push, hayden cant sniff a QB.

While I'll agree with the DL assessment........I didn't say the secondary was terrible BUT they are average at best. The safeties...... BOTH stink and the middle of the field has been a festering gob for several years now. Pressure or no, 2 second throws isn't going to make the DL any better.

JMO, of course.

Don't get me wrong, the entire secondary needs to go, but I'm just saying the inside line might be a bigger problem for our defense.

In thinking about it, you're probably right.

The fat dudes need to be able to stop the run, too.......give the LBer's a fighting chance.

I think it would rational to state the Cowboys could use more talent at every position on defense, especially d-line, safety, and CB.

Run defense was terrible this year. This defense wasn't designed to play without the lead. QBs were able to pick and choose when to attack us. You need a guy who you can put in there and stop the run when necessary. You also need someone who impacts the passing game more.

Still need help there, we need our big mammoth in the middle. They'll be free agents and draft able players at that spot.

Very True, hell even here in D with our secondary issues spanning seemingly about a decade, Wade brought the sacks/covered for poor secondary play. We still gave up our usual big plays in the secondary, but were offset with production from Ware, Rat, Hatcher, and Spencer mainly.

It's become an anomaly at this point outside of allocating any resources to the Safety position. Just messn with ya and agree that the front 7 causes good secondaries to become great. But I also think that the lack of resources given towards the S position is the part of the formula this team is missing out on ESP in a zone scheme; given all the resources allocated to the DL and CB position (historically mostly).

Haven't put any serious resources in at safety since Roy Williams

There has to be something in the water in Ft Worth that causes secondary players to become intoxicated upon their arrival. It's become an anomaly at this point outside of allocating any resources to the Safety position. Just *** with ya but think that is why our secondary has been so poor given all the resources allocated to the DL and CB position.

I would kill for Talib, Roman Harper, TJ Ward and Josh Norman.

Talib was a guy I wanted and Dallas also, but Tampa got him right in front of us. Then Dallas was weak in the knees and took Felix jones and Mike Jenkins. Passing up Mendenhall, Forte, Jordy nelson, Ray Rice, Chris Johnson, Desean jackson, Calais Cmapbell, Brandon Flowers to name a few. That stings doesn't it?

And I was/am a HUGE fan of Roy. It's unfortunate he didn't have the marbles or drive to evolve into developing coverage skills/schemes on top of his knack for hitting. On top of that, his beautiful head to heads would be get him banned in a matter of games in today's punk NFL. Horsecollar was overblown and saw him back off once he "got it".

I don't like to play revisionist generally, but drafting back ups intentionally in the first round gives fans the window to do so.;):D Sucks a bag of em in this case I tell ya that with all the talent mentioned above; esp Forte, Campbell, Nelson, and Flowers.
