INSANE college football year

Should have known the first weekend. Appalachian state beating MICHIGAN at MICHIGAN. Rutgers, Vanderbilt no longer doormats. INDIANA is going to a bowl. KENTUCKY beating #1 LSU. Nebraska and Notre Dame are putrid. Miami and Florida State stink. South Florida- which did not HAVE A FOOTBALL PROGRAM 10 years ago- is a legitimate top 5 team.

Its going to take a while for a lot of people to accept all this. There has been a seismic shift in the college football world. The 85 Scholly rule and tv coverage of conferences and teams that never got it before, add to that all the bowls that now reward more teams then ever before, has finally changed the foundation of college football. Its going to be harder and harder to predict who will be good and who will not. And its going to be harder then ever to go undefeated.

Agreed it has been a crazy year.

One week we had 8-9 ranked teams lose, this weekend the #1 and #2 teams lose a week after another top 3 team loses.

Just crazy.

It makes for interesting games and should be another excuse for people to start complaining about the BCS towards the end of the season. The only level of football not to have a playoff system.

should take the top 8 teams. No team plays more then 11 games regular season. All conferences have a championship game if they have divisions.
All conferences with more then 7 teams should have divisions. After the conference championship games a committee consisting of former coaches and players pick the 8 best teams for playoffs. conference champions have a edge over non conference champions- unless those two teams did not play each other. Head to head results will always count. Seed them and play them. Have the seven biggest bowls used as the games. rotate the semi final and final games between them.

This could be a season where every team at the top has 2 losses. And I'm talking about 5-7 teams with 2 losses. Most teams have only played 6 games right now. Halfway through and basically everyone has a loss.

How do you sort out the two teams who should play in the championship game with that kind of carnage? There could be riots in the streets if there is no playoff system in place pretty soon.

Not just football, isn't it the only level of sports not to have a playoff system? Heck, even NASCAR and golf have a playoff now.

NASCAR does not have a single race or such to determine a champion.
Nor does golf. But then who really cares?
