Instant Analysis: 23 of Cowboys 30 national invites now known

http://cowboyswire.usatoday.com/201...-22-of-cowboys-30-national-invites-now-known/

The Cowboys won’t announce their complete list of national pre-draft invites for the 2016 draft, but that doesn’t mean the names won’t be known prior to the draft. Cowboys Wire has gathered a list of 22 of the 30 prospect visitors, and it’s headlined by six quarterbacks, five running backs, two receivers and six defensive lineman.

Over recent years, the players who eventually make their way to Dallas during draft weekend have been plucked directly from players they’ve brought into Valley Ranch for either one of the 30 national visits, or via Dallas Day, where prospects who attended high school or college in an extended Dallas area, come in as a large group.

In fact, last year’s selection of Byron Jones marked the ninth time in 10 years that the Cowboys first round selection came from the pre-draft visit list. Expect this year to be no different.

Last year, Chaz Green (3rd rd) and Mark Nzeocha (7th) were known National Invites. What wasn’t advertised was that Randy Gregory (2nd) and Damien Wilson (4th) were last minute visitors to the Ranch. Ryan Russell (5th round out of Carrollton, TX) apparently was part of Dallas Day. Laurence Gibson (7th) had a private workout with the team. The only name remaining is Geoff Swaim, from University of Texas...

Unless something changed, Nkemdiche was never confirmed so BTB removed him. The ones missing from that list are Fuller, Dodd and Coe. If Ryan Brown is a national visit and not a Dallas day guy (Never heard of him so I don't know) that makes it 25.

Starting to look like QB and DL with the 1st two picks to me. Though not necessarily in that order. Maybe a WR in the 2nd if a guy like Doctson(Dallas day) or Fuller(ewww) is there.

Which Fuller was it? Will or Kendall?

I've seen nothing saying Cardale is visiting. That source attached to it is just schefter saying they worked him out, which had to be at OSU because they can't work them out on visits.

QB Jared Goff 1 5 in the middle of the first for trade down.
DL DeForest Buckner 2 6
QB Carson Wentz 2 7
RB Ezekiel Elliot 1 8
CB Vernon Hargreaves 1 10
WR Laquon Treadwell 1 11
ER Shaq Lawson 3 13
DL Sheldon Rankins 1 14
DL Robert Nkemdiche 5 25
QB Paxton Lynch 3 33
RB Derrick Henry 2 38
QB Connor Cook 4 39 You can see who they might like in the second
WR Tyler Boyd 5 43
QB Christian Hackenberg 5 71 You can see some consideration in the third and so on
SS Karl Joseph 3 80
RB Kenyon Drake 8 104
RB Paul Perkins 9 116
RB CJ Prosise 10 120
QB Jacoby Brissett 8 165

So our highly concentrated positional interests, not necessarily in this order, would be:

QB
RB
DT/DE
WR
CB/S - top tier at the positions of the draft

1 LB doesn't count.
No Myles Jack or Jaylon Smith involvement so far. Could be because of injury?

To me this looks like a BPA at our needs draft. That's really how we have drafted the last few years anyways. Clearly looking to build the team through the draft and depth with value priced FA vets.

I thought they had visits/workouts set up for Terrance Smith FSU and Justin Simmons BC?

At least with Smith, it's possible the Cowboys may have spoken with him prior. I believe he had his surgery in Dallas by the Dallas team surgeon so they probably have enough information on him already. Or it's possible the doctor told Dallas stay away, his knee is a real mess.

So using the list with the CBS Sports ranking, it's likely we would be choosing from:

1st: Ramsey, Bosa, Goff

2nd: Lynch, Henry or Cook

3rd: Hackenburg or Joseph

4th: Drake, Perkins or Prosise (looks to me our back most likely comes in this round)

4th Brissett
