Both were great but Elway could scramble. Slight edge to Elway.

It took Aikman less time to take his team to what, 3 Lombardis?
It took Elway a career to finally win a big one.

Aikman by a mile. Not flashy, not last-second hero, but, yes, methodical and efficient and a playmaker when the team needed it.

Using your logic, I guess Dilfer is miles ahead of Marino.

The comparison was Elway and Aikman.
Not a Dilfeer-Marino comparison, though I appreciate the tired cliche.

You decide your Dilfer-Marino.

For me it is Aikman. Period. Point blank. :D

Just a note:

Although Aikman doesnt have the talent Elway had. He sure in hell had the leadership, and He proved that by leading and controlling the offense to perfection. Alot Qb's would of choked up against the Niners, Packers and other NFC east teams of those years. Aikman steped up.

Elway didnt step up when it mattered most...Yea he got his rings at the end but it was more TD handing them to him in a silver platter then HIm going out and getting them.

Just my two cents.

I'd go with Elway. He literally had nobody helping him before Shanahan became the head coach and his head coach before that was Dan Reeves who I always thought was a pretty mediocre coach.

To me Elway had all of the tools and skills you wanted from a QB. Unbelievable arm, good accuracy, tremendous at throwing on the run, mobile, could take unbelievable hits and still walk away, could read defenses, great at changing the deflections of his snap counts to draw the opponent offsides, excellent pocket presence, unbelievable in the 2 minute drill, etc.

IMO, Elway shows how important a great QB is in the game, but also shows that no matter how good a QB is, he cannot do it all by himself.

YAKUZA

Very well put. I couldn't agree more.

You make a couple of very good points here that I agree with ya on. However, I have to disagree with Elway not stepping up when it mattered. The man had as many 4th qtr comebacks as anyone who played and he did lead a "bunch of Joes" to three superbowls well before T.D. came on board.

For some reason I was thinking Elway only won one Superbowl and then retired. I see that I was wrong and he won two...

Aikman was as accurate as they come. But he couldn't throw the deep ball. He also use to drive me nuts when he got sacked or knocked down and looked like a 72 yr old man trying to get up. He did help us win three superbowls so for that he is legend.

Elway on the other hand never had any help, until Davis. He could win games on his own and for that he was the better QB in my opinion. Does anybody think that Aikman could have won games without Michael or Emmitt?

You know I have to back peddle on the " Him not steping up when it mattered" comment. The guy deserves the respect. He didnt have the team around him to win it all untill late in his career.

I would go with Aikman, I always said it. Aikman was the best in the 90's. Better than Farve, Young, Elway and obviously Kelly.

If you're gonna use that argument against elway, the same could be said for Aikman with Emmitt. And I know like me, you would believe that was a lame argument to discredit Aikman.

Very much disagree with your knock on Reeves.

Reeves took Denver to 3 Super Bowls,

plus he took atlanta to the bowl and he had the giants one score away from NFC top seed in 93

This thread proves Aikman is one of the most underrated QBs in the history of the NFL. Put him in a pass oriented offense and he'd have similar numbers to Elway.
