We have a great QB. I know some here don't like Romo and think he can't win the big one, blah, blah blah. You are wrong, so let's move along.

Murray can be the franchise RB for a while. Felix will be able to get 12-15 touches as the game changer. We need a third RB, and maybe that is Tanner. Whatever, we are looking good here.

OT is set. Two young guys that can play. If Tyron makes the switch we have the bookends we have been looking for. Free is solid, but I think he got hurt by the carousel we had at LG this season. Moving back to the right side will let him shine.

ILB needs depth, but Sean Lee is the best we have had in a long time. He will have a great career barring any serious injury. Carter needs to produce but he has had a season to heal up and learn. I look for him to be a huge upgrade next year.

WR is solid. Miles, Robinson and Dez, if they all three are healthy, can match up with any defense in the league. If Dez continues to work and improve imagine what these three can do.

Witten is the league's best. He may not have had the year Gronkowski or Davis did, but he is the entire package.

Bailey may have finally filled the need for a place kicker. We have had some poor performances here in years past, but this kid seems solid. Makes me forget about losing Nick Folk.

Demarcus Ware and Jay Ratliff are perennial pro bowlers and Ware is always a DPOY candidate. Jenkins seemed to get his head together and had a good season.

These are pretty solid things to build on, folks. Most coaching staffs and GM's would love to have this core to build on in January.

I don't see things as bleak as others but with this bunch you will not find many wanting to talk about upsides

Agree we've definitely got about 10 good players (Ratliff, Ware, Lee & Jenkins on defense & Romo, Witten, Miles, Dez, Murray, Smith, Free--if he returns to 2010 play). But 11 players aren't enough to carry this whole team when most of the other players wouldn't start on other NFL teams. We must seriously upgrade our defense by addition of at 3-5 starters & at least 2 starting OL players along with retaining Robison & Fiammetta, plus a good backup QB. Not sure Cowboys management see it that way but frankly these above problems have existed for a few years. JJ & maybe JG just don't see reality; wonder what it will take for them to get it.

We all have hopes/dreams for FA & upcoming draft but will reality change our tune. Do we really have the cap space to add at least 1 quality defensive starter & 1 quality OL starter along with a pretty good draft or is Jerry content to do the minimum to improve the team so long as the stadium keeps selling out & he makes money?

Well you hit the nail right on the head with your last comment. It's all relative. I believe most who look at the team and see more questions than answers aren't looking at things in the proper perspective.

They have this unreasonable fantasy team in mind where all 22 starters are either a legit probowl players or has enough demonstrated ability to achieve that status this season.

And those 22 starters are backed up by 11 up and coming guys. Anyone of which could break out if given a shot.

Which is odd, considering the "sky is falling" crowd have their choice of dozen threads in which to voice their "certainty" that this team is in an awful way and will require multiple years before it has any chance of becoming a true contender.

The fact is that the OP is right on in pretty much every statement that was made. Nowhere in the post are wild predictions made, simply stated the things that are positive, or trending positive. And I agree with the premise.

This team does have a solid core of players already in place. In fact, I would hypothesize that the list could have been even longer and included such items as:

• Our draft last season appeared to have taken a definite turn for the better with players making immediate contributions and the "one who got away" - was snapped up by another team and remains there today. Obviously, others believe even the least (Thomas) among our draft was worth grabbing. Chapas?
• Our coaching staff has had a serious infusion of fresh blood and now includes an OC (Callahan) who has led a team to the SB, a secondary coach (Henderson) who was sought after last season, but who was denied us because the Browns deemed him too valuable to let go.
• Our HC (Garrett) now has a full season under his belt, and he has learned an enormous amount regarding his position, and the responsibilities, work load, and multi-tasking involved... to the point perhaps that he will now embrace the presence of an OC to assist in prep, if not in play-calling. Can't wait to see what he does with a real off-season to implement his visions for the team.
• The teams direction... ah, the one that cannot be easily quantified- and yet seems so obvious to so many. Little things, mean a lot.
• Our owner, Jerry Jones- he appears to be in the "let the coaches coach" mode that so many have wanted. He may still put himself out there as the voice of the organization, but that is to be expected- since he is the owner and GM. If you pay attention, many in his position (GM or Owner) choose to speak and express thoughts concerning their organizations... Jerry simply gets his words highlighted, maligned, taken out of context, twisted, and simply misunderstood- to a much higher level.

Those would be my own modest contribution to this thread- please everybody, feel free to add your own thoughts and let this thread be one where people can refer for reminders of what is "right" with this organization. Plenty of other threads to describe what is wrong, plenty of threads, plenty of topics- because all of us understand that there are negatives to be addressed. Doesn't need to happen here though.

Hopefully we do the right thing and draft David DeCastro in the spring, and finally give Romo the offensive line he deserves.

Double that up by adding some bulk and some talent on the defensive line.

The game is won or lost along the line of scrimmage.
