A separate source tells me the Cowboys also have preliminary interest in speaking with Chris Petersen, the University of Washington head coach having recently decided to relinquish his post in unexpected fashion. Petersen cites a need to step away from the game so that he can recharge, and that's a clear indication he isn't done coaching -- prepared to return the moment he feels ready. The interest in him is expected to be as profound as any other candidate, and for reasons that extend beyond his success in turning around the program in Washington.

Petersen was a longtime head coach at Boise State -- a school the Cowboys routinely pluck talent from -- and was largely responsible for making current Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore into a collegiate legend. Also having played under Petersen at Boise State was All-Pro defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence and defensive lineman Tyrone Crawford, setting the stage for a Blue Blood thread that extends from Petersen's front porch right into the heart of the Cowboys organization.

Expect Moore to nudge the club toward making an expected call to Petersen, with Lawrence and Crawford standing in full support.

So now they have their Plan C to keep Kellen Moore and groom him to be the future HC someday :omg:

Nah. Not fiery enough. Solid coach but not for this team.

Either Urban to kick these bums in the teeth or Riley to install an offense that actually works.

Looks like they are shopping around for the next HC. Too bad they missed Black Friday. They should have fired clapper on Thanks Giving.

If any HC, especially a college HC, is going to kick these bums in the teeth, Booger will have the team dentist on standby.

These college coaches don't get the difference between college players and pro players, under contracts with a CBA keeping them from strenuous activity outside of 3 hours a week, until they get into the NFL. That's what sent Petrino, Saban and Spurrier back to college where they are the dog not the tail.

And those were teams that let their coaches coach, you imagine Booger "Iluvmesumplayerscuztheyluvmenmymoney" Jones? Have you ever heard of any GM turning down his HC for increasing fines because players were late or missing meetings? Heard any other GM's give injury reports or question the legitimacy of a players injury?

This job is going to be just like those that most of us have had at one time or another in our career's. There's the job they describe to you and then there's the job you show up to work for and the Cowboy's HC job is one of a kind in all of football. The candidates will think they're interviewing for the job of Cowboys HC, the one that gets it will show up for the job of keeping the Cowboys GM comfortable.

With how this is all being handled now, don't you have reservations about someone who actually wants this job. There are more talking heads mentioning that the problem isn't just coaching. Say what we will about him, Garrett's happiest day in a long, long time will be his last as the DC HC. However, he will walk a little funny for a while with his balls back.

helluva coach.
I'd love him here...if we can't get Meyer.

Hey, we're going to need a new OC, ST coordinator, and new DC as well. There are a lot of positions open. I'm open to letting him take one of those spots. Maybe him at ST coordinator, Meyer as HC, Rivera as DC, and Riley as OC. There's no cap on coaches so Jerry can go all out. Imagine what this team would be with that coaching staff .

Anyone who can actually have team specific game plans and has an ounce of understanding how to manage situational football is good with me

He stepped down because he feels burnt out . He isnt turning right around and coming here. If he was interested in the job, he didnt need to step down

Here we go with the Boise State connection again.

Discipline discipline discipline I don't know how this is going to turn out but that's what we need more than anything

What about Bill Cowher? I know he has been out of the game a while but I wonder if this might be the timing & opportunity he would consider. I'm not saying that I would give it an instant stamp of approval but something keeps bringing his name to mind.

Personally I like Bill Cowher I think he's a disciplinarian that's what I understand he's already being looked at by another team I don't recall who

I'm a Boise State fan, so I'd love to see Coach Pete come to the Cowboys. But if coaching at U-Dub burned him out, then this is the LAST job he would want. There's no way he'd be able to tolerate a Cowboys job with just as many hours as his college gig and double the pressure on him from the national media.

I'd say there's a non-zero chance of this happening, just because we have so many Boise State'ers here that we might suck him in. But it's like a 1% probability IMO.

I think Coach Pete would actually be good in the NFL too. There's always questions about the transition from college to the pros, but Pete was never a fire-and-brimstone disciplinarian, and he was never armed with overwhelming firepower like Urban Meyer was every single week.

Okay guys. If you guys are mad at Garrett for lack of situational football, game awareness, losing to inferior teams, not having your team prepared..... Petersen has been getting roasted for this ever since he came to Washington. I live in the Seattle area and have watched every Husky football game.

In 2014 at Arizona. His Defense gets the ball back with about 1:25 on the clock and Arizona only has 1 timeout.... I am not going to check the exact time on the clock.... painful memories. ALL Petersen had to do was to take 3 kneel downs and the game is over.... Instead on the 1st play they give it to a seldom used 4th string RB he fumbles. Arizona recovers converts a couple 4th and longs. Last play of the game the Arizona kicker misses the FG. But Petersen had called time out. the next 53 yard FG goes in.... Worst Husky loss ever.

Postgame interview Petersen said it was not his fault. It was the assistant coaches fault for doing the math wrong and not telling him that he could take a knee & it was the RB's fault for fumbling.

Overall Petersen seems like a good guy.... But for EVERYTHING you complain about Garrett.... Petersen is twice as bad.
