Interesting Info:

The Owners Have Lockout Insurance
The NFL’s new television rights agreement with DirecTV will pay them $1 billion per year from 2011 through 2014.

Even if games are not played in 2011, the NFL’s deal with DirecTV calls for the league to be paid the billion-dollar rights fee. That’s approximately $31 million per team to tide them over through a lockout. The NFL has debt limits of $120 million per team.

There is no reason to believe that the NFL players will be any more successful at holding out than their NBA bretheren. NFL careers are quite short. The league is filled with players in their first through fifth years. The fifth round draft choice doesn’t see a big payday until probably his fourth or fifth season. Until then, he’s not exactly struggling, but he also doesn’t have a $30 million guaranteed contract.

If the NFL locks out the players, the NFL will win.

i wish they would come to an agreement already jeez the players make millions just practicing and playing on sundays at one of the best jobs in the world playing football. Yeah there bodies take a beating but come on most players get paid crazy money especially Top draft pick rookies who havent even played a down. They need to come up with a rookie pay scale and come to an agreement with NFL players pay scale. Some players even get paid for endorsements and other things.

I WANT TO WATCH FOOTBALL IN 2011 AT ITS REGULAR TIME OR EVEN EARLIER, IF THE PLAYERS GET LOCKED OUT THEY LOOSE

Do the players still get paid even if their locked out? I dont think so
If not then i bet they have massive bills to pay and are going to need the money especially the players who are low on the depth chart or practice squads.

Players do not get paid if they do not play. Simple as that.

The NFL owners have had the TV contract rights in their corner from the get go.

My analogy, borrowed from despair.com, is that the players are about to find out that they aren't big fish in a little pond, or little fish in a big pond, but that they're little fish inside of a big fish.

The owners can, if they so choose, to sue the NFLPA for collusion to use anti-trust regulations as a bargaining tool in negotiations, or something like that. The fact that if the union de-certifies, and then sues the NFL for anti-trust, the NFL can sue because the NFLPA has already done this once and then reformed immediately after that CBA was established in 1987. That's a big no-no from what my corporate law attorney has said, and I read it somewhere in an article a few months back.

If the courts see that the NFLPA has disbanded and used such actions as a bargaining tool, the NFLPA's case against the NFL will be tossed out. That's the biggest chip in the pile as far as the NFLPA is concerned, and it's a plugged nickel when it comes to the federal courts.

Seems a pretty meaningless sum of money in the grand scheme of things.

What happens with the draft in a lockout year?

Do we still draft and then the rookies get nothing because there are no games?

Or does the draft delay a year?

That isnt free money. It has to be paid or credited back.

there's been conflicting reports...I recall Mort, Shefter and Czarnecki all saying there would be a draft if a lockout happened, but there are others who believe it wouldnt happen

The TV money has to be paid back later by the owners if there is a lockout. I believe it must be paid back in parts over a 5 year period.

Lock em out.. hopefully by the time they come back we'll have a better team .. Lock out JJ too :)
