Some teams have graded Jonathan Cooper and Chance Warmack as highly as any players in the draft. But it is likely players with much lower grades, like West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith, for instance, will be taken ahead of Cooper and Warmack.

Why? Because they are guards. And some teams believe guards have limited value.

Other teams see hidden value in guards. One of those teams is the Tennessee Titans, who happen to be coached by Hall of Fame guard Mike Munchak. Their offensive line coach is Hall of Fame guard Bruce Matthews. If any team understands the importance of a guard, it is the Titans.

Good read. I wish the Cowboys front office would get serious about fixing the offensive line. I still think that they don't get it.

The interesting thing about the top 2 prospects in this draft and the top 3 guys from the scouts is the top 3 are all quite a bit bigger and taller.

Cooper is very close in measurables to Joseph (1/2 inch shorter but stronger coming out).

Warmack is different. He plays like one of the huge maulers, but has a shorter frame but still has long arms.

Fluker's dimensions, agility and power are alot like the top 3 guards some of which were college tackles too.

Yes, because when I think of organizations that epitomize success, I think of the Titans.

Shows the price of not having a higher end QB.

And now recently, their oline has gone down the tube too.

Guards have value; we know this. But if I had the #1 pick in the draft, and you told me that Cooper would be a ProBowler for the next 10 years, I still would not take him #1 overall.

Having the best guard in the draft instead of a solid starter who is the 3rd, 4th, or 5th best OG isn't going to dramatically change anyone's record.

Yes, getting Cooper instead of bums makes a huge difference, but getting Cooper instead of the kid from Kentucky is not going to win more games for you. How many teams with solid starters at OG would trade one of them for the best OG in the league, along with his huge contract? Probably none. It's those of us who have crap for starters who want the probowler.

I think we go

1. RT
2. DL
3. DB
4. OG.............and we'll probably still have a guy who starts for us unless last year's FA guards kick it into high gear this year.

I think they get that they need a good OL. It's just how to go about getting one that seems to be the problem.

Brian Waters is still as good as any of those guys outside the top 3. Due to his age and his requirements (wants to play for Texas team) he is a placeholder but a placeholder who is still playing at a pro bowl level is rare.
