I enjoy reading the articles on the site and I'm not one who lets his whole opinion get changed from reading one thing. That being said...the second slide mentions getting a new head coach. This is a hot topic on the message boards/forums and will be debated all through the off season as well. The interesting thing I saw in the article was that the cowboys should not get a coach like cowher or gruden who would bring in their traditional schemes and that we should shy away from the notion that we NEED a coach with NFL experience. I agree to an extent, but what do you all think?

I think it's a hopeless cause. This team is about to get worse, not better.

Changing coaches is just rearranging chairs again.

I still like the current HC, but, if he's definitely gone, I want a guy who's going to pay attention to advanced analytics. I *don't* want a retread coach who had success elsewhere in this league.

The problem is, I'd also want a guy who's able to handle the owner and the other special circumstances here in Dallas. And those guys don't grow on trees. It's a tall order.

I think the CB prediction isn't especially valid now that Sterling Moore has effectively replaced BW Webb.

I don't agree that we need more WR help, but it's amusing to think what the reaction would be if we went WR relatively early in the draft, again. :)

I want to like Jason Garrett, but his coaching decisions just make me scratch my head and question his abilities as a leading man. If we were to pluck somebody from the college ranks, it would probably be hard to find somebody that had the backbone to tell Jerry stay out of this, let me do my job and the players work.

Analytics are the future. I believe unfortunately Chip Kelly is of this sort so we may be dealing with him for a while. We need to make a Boston Celtics like hire of Brad Stevens. I have liked people throwing out Bill O'Brian and David Shaw as candidates but you know Jerry will hire a familiar face.

analytics are the future? Oh BS. They are not going to make much of a difference. Mainly because there are too many variables for them to really be all that much use.

I think there's little doubt that analytical coaches are going to have a huge impact on the pro game. I think PHI is going to be a pain in the butt for years once they have an offseason or two to focus on defensive talent.

Shaw's not going anywhere anytime soon, anyway. He's pretty happy here at Stanford, and it's his dream job. We'll have to see what names get put in the hat if we make a move. 9 times out of 10, I don't like the candidates we're rumored to be associated with, and I don't expect to like them this time around, either. That's another of the reasons I was fond of the Garrett hire.

Not nearly as much as the fact that Gooddell and the competition committee pander to fantasy owners by making it so easy to throw the football.

I agree with you on Shaw. Don't really see him as a money chaser, we would need him to get an itch to test out the pros or some unfortunate violations.

Scary thing about Kelly is he may not even feel Foles is his long term quarterback who keeps putting up ridiculous numbers. He probably thinks he can do better.

I gotta agree with you, I like Garrett, but I believe the game is changing from when he played and we need to catch up or we are going to get pasted by. Advance analytics is where football is and you either jump on the bus or you get past by.

Sadly, it all comes down to the same ol, same ol, Jerry. No matter who comes in, whether it's a puppet which Jerry will control from day one, or a seasoned vet like Gruden or Cowher, it's only a matter of time before jerry cuts the legs out from them. Seen this movie too many times.

I'd like to look at a coach who has skins on the wall and will negotiate in his contract the certain powers he's allowed to have. Those powers would include everything football related from picking his own staff, to picking his own coaches, discipline, scheme, play callers. Jerry can handle the money, the spot light, the Jersey sales, where they practice, who's on the sidelines, what they eat on the bus, if toiletries are issued to the players or if they must bring their own.etc...

Shaw and O'Brien would be great hires. Get rid of the same old same old. That being said, he'll hire someone like Zimmer.

Kiffin was not a Garrett decision.

Bill O'Brian or David Shaw are the guys I would want from the college ranks. I'm higher on Shaw though. Get him in here and let him pick his staff. Stanford is a defense-first team. That's my Christmas wish. I'm over Garrett.
