The Dallas Cowboys have one of the greatest histories in the world of sports. The 2023 season will mark the team’s 64th season. In those prior 63 seasons, the Cowboys have these historical landmarks:
  • All time regular season record: 550-408-6 (.574, best winning % in NFL history)
  • All time playoff record: 36-30 (tied for 2nd in wins behind Pats, and tied with niners, pack and steelers)
  • All time SB wins: 5 (tied for 2nd with niners)
  • Most consecutive playoff seasons: 9 seasons- (1975-83)
  • Most consecutive playoff wins: 7 (1992-94)
  • Seasons in the playoff: 35 seasons
  • Seasons not in the playoffs: 28 seasons
  • Playoff seasons 1960-1999: 27/40 seasons
  • Playoff seasons 2000-2022: 8/23 seasons
  • *Late edit- 20 consecutive winning seasons streak. (1966-85) A record that still stands.
Here are some historic trends the Cowboys could add this year:
  • Win 12 or more games for the third straight year (would be first since 1992-1995 which was 4 straight)
  • Make the playoffs for the third straight year (would be the first time since 1994-96)
  • Win a playoff game two years in a row (would be first time since 1995-96)
  • Win two or more playoff games in a season (would be first time since 1995 season)
  • Win a road playoff game two years in a row (would be first time since 1991-92) (correction)
  • Win a divisional playoff game for the first time since 1995.
  • Play in an NFC championship game for the first time since 1995.
  • Play in a SB for the first time since Jan, 28, 1996.
Here‘s hoping 2023 is historical in many ways!

Did you mean something else? Like win 2 road playoff games in a row?
No, he has it right, except it was 1975 and 1976. That's the last time we've won road playoff games two years in a row. Personally, I hope we don't win (or play) any road playoff games this year.

Edit: I think he was right, it was the 1974 and 1975 seasons, the playoff games were of course in the next calendar year.

No. Win a road playoff game two years in a row. It would be the first time since ‘75. We won a road playoff game last year for the first time since 1992.

its funny but for many years there was some record, best winning % I think, or something like that, where the Cowboy and Raiders were best and they would keep leapfrogging each other, for a while the Raiders had the best, then for a while Dallas had the best. I would always hear tv talking heads say the Raiders had the best franchise winning % but never heard them say Dallas.

I can't believe you missed one: most consecutive winning seasons. The Cowboys had 20 consecutive winning seasons from 1966-85, making the playoffs 18 times.

1974 and 1984 they missed the playoffs. 1994 was the only time they didn't win the SB between 1992-95. There's something about the number 4, I guess.

Better win it all this season, because next year is 2024.

I am thankful Pittsburgh and New England (to the point Tom Brady left) eroded to inconsistent contenders when they did. Sixth and seventh Super Bowl victories are still within range for the franchise.

The only question is when can those goals be attained? Hopefully those will come true sometime before the Giants and/or Packers get their act together again and leapfrog us like the Patriots did.

NE had what 18 or 19, then Brady left, and ended that streak.
Steelers are pushing the 20 now….however, in their streak they have like 5 - 8-8 seasons. So still not a winning season, so that should disqualify them.

However the media will disavow that and claim they weren’t losing seasons and say it counts. Technically and realistically Dallas owns this record as to it truly being over .500.

I'm confident this dynamic duo can crack the code after almost three decades of trying. After all, if they fail again their jobs are on the line...oh, wait. That's not how it works.

The Cowboys aren't living in their own universe. So you can't put them just up against their own sad history over the last 27 years. Everything looks good against that pathetic background.

I give you one thing though: Getting #6 would separate us from the 49ers once again and THAT'S something to definitely look forward to. :)

Great post.

The best winning percentage is something they recently took back from the Green Bay Packers. Ironically, they used to have the record and then lost it in 2010 against the Packers, the same game after which Wade Phillips was fired. They got it back late in the 2021 season.

Winning the Super Bowl would mean that Coach McCarthy would be the first Head Coach in NFL history to win a Super Bowl with two different teams. Other HC's have taken two different teams to the Super Bowl but have never won both.
