Who is winning the Olympics to date.

Before any of you give the standard rote answer, yes I know Canada isn't. Now that I have that out of the way, it will be down to China and the USA. No one else is close.

The US is ahead in total medals but China is ahead in Gold by about 10.

China trained for about 8 years to win Golds, that is all they care about. The IOC considers gold medals to be more important and puts the country with the most gold ahead in their standings.

However, in North America, we consider the most medals overall to be the winner.

What sayest thou?

China

it's about the gold medals.

people consider Phelps the greatest olympian because he has a bunch of gold medals not because he has the most medals ever (he doesn't). same should apply to the "leader of the olympics"

It's all about the Super Bowl in football.

Don't know why the Olympics would be any different. I think we can have both numbers if things continue to work out though.

My approach is to give 3 points for gold, 2 for silver, 1 for bronze... using that standard, China is kicking butt... we have 124 points, China has 144...

The amount of gold medals China has is staggering.

But it's not over.

We'll see what happens in track and field.

Another thing that amazes me, is the amount of "Americans" that are in the Olympics for another country.

China can be a truly dominating country. Not just in sports.

Part of me wants to say. Gold Medal = winner. Thats it. Just like in other sports. Baseball, Football, Basketball etc... at the end their is ONE winner and no one really remembers or cares about the loser in those playoff games.

I know Dara is happy about the Silver's. But I am sure its tearing her up insided. She lost the Gold. Its that simple.

The other part of me. With Silver and Bronze... atleast you medal'd? I guess.
