Got this from the Spagnola article:
Spagnola: Let’s Not Overly Complicate This Backup Quarterback Situation

And now Josh McCown? How much to give the Cleveland Browns in a trade? Before you answer, let’s remember, he’s 37 years old – and you thought Tony Romo was old at 36. Also, consider McCown’s 2015 season ended after eight starts in Cleveland because …

He suffered a fractured collarbone.
Yes, a fractured collarbone ..

Now how much you want to pay for that? And remember, trading for McCown means you inherit his $4.35 million base salary for this year, and he’s certainly not obligated to renegotiate with you. That for a backup?
A 37 year old quarterback that at best would be a one year backup for $4.35 million ...

Wow if he has had his lung punctured and ribs broken too sign him up asap. Late 30 year old QB'S held together by duck tape and Elmer's glue can be a thing around here. Trendsetters!

I'm not naming the table for McCown either, but I'll be very interested to see how Mickey's tune changes from this, to praise when the Cowboys ultimately make the move for him. Because that's what I still expect will happen.

Not because I want it to, but because I think he fits the veteran mold that Dallas all too often covets. More than anyone else, they know his salary and his history, and yet they still engaged in talks with the Browns, meaning that neither factor was any sort of a deal breaker for them.

Again, I'm not saying that it's a great move, or one I'm rooting for, but I'll be interested to see the shill Spagnola grind his gears reversing his position if and when it happens.

The fact of the matter is management did very little to address the immediate situation over an 8 month period. They were even fortunate Foles became available as late as he did. Obviously the need is dire for a backup but I would not spend anything more than a 6th rounder on essentially a 37 year old journeyman QB. It would be classic Jones & Jones to overspend just as they did for Cassell. Can't believe we lost a 5th rounder for bumsauce!!

So basically I would just wait and grab the best available FA QB when guys start getting cut. This is the bed the Jones boys made. Don't make matters worse and lose a valuable draft pick.

We just waited too long to get a quality backup.

I thought the team had wised up on handing out top dollar on players that should be riding the pine.

Something about responsible cap management...and still having money for the moves made and contract negotiations.

...or made a case for lowering market value to a sight picture that be required for any addition to the roster, that is unless wishing upon a star.

If this message board was around when Steve Buerlein was signed, you'd have a lot of the same people taking a huge crap on the signing because he wasn't a 22-year old potential "diamond-in-the-rough" prospect.

Key word - signed. Not traded for, costing a valuable draft pick.

After all this time Mickey finally makes a salient original point that wasn't shilling the team. I'm doing the lottery tonight.

I don't think we should waste a pick on Mccown. If we trade for a qb it should be a young one that could possibly end up being Romo's replacement when he retires. Foles should have been the target. Glennon is a possible option.

If this thread goes on one more week there will be posts knocking the Cowboys for not resigning Brandon Weeden.
