So as I was attempting to put together a mock, I came across in interesting possibility. Let me outline it real quick...
Baltimore, New Orleans, Detoit and Arizona all take CBs, so DRC, McKelvin, Jenkins and Talib are all off the board by the time we pick at 22. At the same time, Denver, Carolina, Chicago and Tampa Bay all address other needs than RB. Houston takes Mendenhall. Also, Buffalo, Philly and Tampa Bay take some combination of Malcolm Kelly, Limas Sweed and DeSean Jackson, probably in that order.
So, to recap, Jonathan Stewart is available at 22, but none of the top 4 corners are. Also, a few more of the top tier WRs are available, such as Hardy, Manningham, Thomas and Doucet. Picking a corner at 22 would be a reach. Hell, picking any of the available corners at 28 would be a reach. Also, between our 22 and 28 picks, there are 2 teams that are almost certain to pick WRs.
If it were me, and even though it seems sort of crazy to me for some reason, I would take a WR at 22 to make sure we have our choice of WR, then since none of the teams between our 2 picks will be taking a RB, we take Jonathan Stewart at 28, assuming someone doesn't trade up to grab him after he fell so far.
In doing this, we somehow luck out and grab Stewart. We also get most likely Hardy, who will be a great number 1 WR someday. But, at the same time, we haven't addressed our biggest need, CB, with our 2 first round picks, and rightfully so because all of the remaining guys such as Flowers, Reggie Smith, Porter and Cason all seem to be second round guys.
We need to somehow get one of the low second round picks, or get any second round pick and package it with our second round pick to move up to the top 10 picks of round 2. (sorry, that got a little "wordy") In doing this, we could grab one of those second tier corners where they have value, instead of reaching with our first round picks.
Ok, I know this is a lot, but tell me what you think, or if you think I'm crazy, which I sort of do. ha
EDIT: After reading this over again and thinking about it, my guess would be Jerry takes Stewart at 22 then takes best available CB at 28, even though I just don't like the idea of reaching for a corner in the late first round, when all the same guys will be available 10 picks later. Oh well.
