Interesting fact on QB

Statistical analysis has shown that first round QB's have a greater success rate than second rounders, and second rounders have a higher success rate than third rounders. After the third round, the probability of success drops significantly.

Despite notable examples to the contrary, as a general rule- higher drafted QB's are statistically more likely to succeed.

yes but it still counts. If we had kept our 1st round pick, we could have drafted Junior Seau.

My big question is who gets drafteted 1 overall if Aikman and Walsh were both available at that time. Jimmy recruited Troy but he won a national championship with Walsh.

Or Cortez Kennedy.

Probably because they are given more chances to succeed due to their high pick along with whatever attributes got them to be considered a high draft pick in the first place.

Problem is many QB are selected in 1st rd who are not 1st rd players.

Bottom line in this QB debate is...

You shouldnt pay a QB a cent more than rookie contract deal or league minimum if all QBs are average like all the Dak haters seem to suggest. Only one player is worthy of 20% of cap and thats Brady.

If thats the case...paying a cent more than needs to be paid for a busdriver is stupid according to their logic. Dispose of all QBs when their second contract is up unless they show Brady like results after only 2 or 3 years in the league.

Its sound logic.

very true and most probably same thing true for all other positions as well. obvious there is a reason those guys get graded as first rounders. but given its not exact science, there are obvious misses.

with that said, 4 out of 5 first round QBs fail. but its the most over drafted position, which explains for some of it.

interesting.

we have had 4 first over all picks play QB for the cowboys...Aikman, Testaverde, Bledsoe, Kosar. and one Second over all pick, Leaf

Does Kosar really count? He was the first pick of the 1985 supplemental draft, but that pick didn't correspond to the #1 overall pick of 1986. It is kind of hard to follow as the Browns traded supplemental picks with the Bills, which I find strange. Neither the Browns or Bills finished last in 1985, so neither would have had the #1 overall pick in the 1986 regular draft.

perhaps you are right. still 3 1st over picks and a 2nd over all pick

Qb is such an interesting position in terms of drafting. There are probably more busts at qb than any other position bc it gets overdrafted so badly.

The best qb of all time was a 6th round pick, our current qb was a 4th, and his predecessor was undrafted.

Very interesting indeed
QB is by far the hardest position to draft and we’ve been really lucky lately to get two good QB’s back to back without using a high pick

In the history of this franchise the Cowboys have selected a QB in the draft with 1st rd pick only twice. Craig Morton selected 5th overall and Troy Aikman 1st overall. Really amazing when you think Cleveland alone 6 over the same time span.
both of those led to SB appearances and wins.
Staubauch would have been a rd 1 pick if not for navy thing, so you have to count him as a rd 1 qb and that accounts for all dallas sb appearances.

Listen to Irvin talk about Aikman and Walsh. He played with Walsh and said Aikman was on another level. The ball coming to him was like God placing it his hands. That doesn’t mean Jimmy doesn’t draft Walsh though.
