Even more telling is if you go back 20 years and look at the QBs in the SB. Leaving Brady out, I think there are only a handful.
Its even more definite when you look at winning QBs. Brady and Brees I think are the only ones that were not first rd picks.
Wilson
Foles
Warner
Brad Johnson
Grossman
Kapernick

I agree, I think many times teams will reach for a QB high in the draft over more talented position players. Trubisky 2nd pick in the draft in 2017? lol

They have to. Because in the NFL, if you don't have a QB, you have nothing. They are just so valuable.

Mahomes...1st round
Allen...1st round
Burrow...1st round
Herbert...1st round
Lawrence...1st round
Tagovailoa...1st round
Jackson...1st round
D Jones...1st round
Hurts...2nd round

That must some kind of record for 1st rounders.

We know Brady is an all-time enigma, so toss him.
Tua and Jackson are not likely to play but ok its another rookie and a backup to that list

I tend to disagree. I agree they are valuable but passing over top talent for a QB who was questionable in that draft. Clearly why they call them coach killers a team invest top pick on a questionable talent and coach goes down with him. I would also add the position requires talent around them, i see way too often a team drafts a top QB yet throws him behind a crappy OL with few weapons then proceeds to get him beat to hell. For me I have to be completely sold on that QB to hitch my wagon to him when using a 1st rd selection

A lot of people including me have commented that the NFC seems down this year. I personally think a lot of it is mediocre QB play. Interesting to see therefore where this year's playoff QB's were drafted. In the AFC every single one was drafted in the first round, most very high. In the NFC only one was drafted in the first round. This could be one of those extremely rare years where a QB drafted outside the first few rounds (with the exception of the GOAT Brady of course) wins the SB. Cousins and Dak could battle to be the first 4th rounder to win one this century. Or they could both go up in flames.
nick foles was backup who was drafted in the 3rd round, Jim McMahon, 9th round ,Kurt warner Undrafted .im sure there are others if you dig deeper

A lot of GMs and Scouts would be irrelevant, useless, and fired if this was the the facts.

Well technically Warner came more than 20 years ago for SB but I do believe that he might be the only undrafted winning SB QB
And most of those QBs on that list were carried by a much better D, not sure about Trent Dilfer; do not remember where he was drafted.
Wilson had the Legion of Boom; Foles had a very good D; Warner now there was a QB. Johnson had that great Bucs D. But as Grossman and Kapernick showed you do need to perform at a reasonable level to win it all.

Wilson and warner were the only two that made it to more than One SB. The rest were pretty much flukes.

Some of them made great stories to an extent; but no long term success.

Bottom line is that with some rare exceptions like Brady and Warner, you are not going to get an elite QB after the first rd.
