Very interesting. I have long suggested our pass rush wasn't good enough but Football Outsiders seems to believe it was better than I had believed.
A few highlights:
- It should come as no surprise that we rushed 4 or less almost 80% of the time and blitzed only 20% of the time. Oddly enough, two of the better pass rush teams - Jags and Eagles - blitzed even less. Shows the strength of their front fours.
- According to Football Outsiders, we had the best pressure rate of any team in the NFL when rushing only four guys. We actually were fairly effective at rushing 3, where we ranked 9th in pressure generated.
- We actually ranked Top 10 in pressure when blitzing as well, although fairly average when the blitzer was a defensive back.
- Football Outsiders largely pins teams' success against us through the air not on being able to pressure QBs but rather we just got poor secondary play.
