I really dout Jerry Jones is going to let Witten get away from him yet. He is barely 25 and has made the last two pro bowls. And at 6-5, 260 he moves well. As for Roy Williams, am I the only cowboys fan out there who feels that this player is wasting away in the secondary. This guy was born to play linebacker in the NFL and in my opinion will never fully realize his potential playing so far away from the line of scrimmage. He is a stout, instinctive player who raises his game the closer he positions himself the line. And he is an explosive, bone rattling tackler with enough strength to shed blocks. This guy could be a sideline to sideline tackling machine with the ability to drop back into coverage and defend tight ends and slot receivers going over the middle of the field. With alittle more work in the weight room he could easily up his playing weight to 240. He is a liability deep in the secondary and often looks miscast and lost. A switch to linebacker would keep him close to the line of scrimmage and always around the football. I feel his stats would be staggering and he could challenge for the defensive player of the year award every year. The rest of his career would mirror Derrick Brooks', another 6' 235 lb linebacker who is probably on his way to the hall of fame.

roy at linebacker?

This same idea was mentioned last season.

I think he would be average at LBer but he is something special at S when he is on.

Yeah, remember BP's saying. "He's a biscuit away from a LB"

I think in our nickel and dime packages Roy at linebacker makes a lot of sense.
I don't like him at lineback full time but in 2nd and long or third and long when the offenses go to multi-wr sets...Roy would be ideal in the shark position that Kenny Gant use to man in Jimmy Johnson's days.

Roy is an elite safety. He should stay there.

I hated this idea when people brought it up when we were still in the 4-3. Now that we are in the 3-4 it is completely useless (though we still do play a significant amount of nickle).

I vote a big, fat NO.

I think Roy would get mauled as a 3-4 linebacker. And he isn't near the liability in coverage that others would have you believe.

disagree. he isnt a 3-4 player, and secondly he is more safety than lb. we just need Pat Watkins to start next to him, because playing next to pieces of trash like Keith Davis is killing Roy.

Roy is a great safety; why waste him at linebacker because of two plays some people choose to remember? Roy is best when he has partners in the secondary he can rely on allowing Roy to be Roy. He hasn't had that since Woody.

And move Gurode to DT, and TO as a FS.....yeah, yeah....we get it.

Why on earth would anyone think taking one of the top 3 safeties in the league and moving him to a position where he's undersized, and would have to take on OLinemen is a good idea?

I'm pretty sure that Roy played a little at LB in our nickel package last year.

But that was just about getting him close to the LOS as a threat to rush the QB.

He'd be good as a nickel LB. In fact, I think that is where he should play this year in the nickel packages. Get him near the line and out of coverage.

I don't think there are any plans to go to a 3-3-5 nickel, but he'd probably be effective there as well.

3-4 linebacker? No way.

Roy is not as bad in coverage as some suspect. Keep in Mind that its the Moss play that's causing all this Raucous. Moss has burned a lot of people over the pass two years and a lot of were CBs. so should these CBs be tagged as over rated if they can't cover a WR? come on fellas, give me a break.

True that Roy isn't the best in coverage but he is not that bad either. as many mention his true strength is to play close to LOS. but I wouldn't move him to LB. because he can play SS, he can provide run support and he is decent (not great) in coverage. so having him is like having a 4th or 5th LB (depending on 4-3 or 3-4) LB close to LOS and a guy who can cover the RB or TE better than a LB could. He maybe mis matched against Moss or Steve Smith or Randy Moss, but so are a lot of other people.

I checked his stats average over his career with those of Archuleta, Taylor, Palumalu, Wilson, Reed and he is right up there with them. He actually is only second to Reed i Ints, so he is not that bad in coverage if he has average 3 Ints per year.

its all an over reaction.

Its more than the Moss touchdowns.

Carolina, NY were two others off the top of my head where he had lapses. The Carolina game on NFL Network really highlighted Delhomme abusing him.

it doesnt hel him in the fact that the FS, whose job is to protect deep is walking around lost, so the SS who's suppose to cover the the middle and short part of the field, has to keep looking back to see if the FS is doing his job, sorry but the blame isnt on Roy because he cant cover the entire field.
