Specifically Wise, Westry, Guyton and Hyatt. Those are the four guys I would be most intrigued about.

- Wise's measurables stack up to some other DTs that were drafted in the upper half of the draft so it will be interesting to see what he can do. He's another 3T but probably could swing in a pinch if need be.

- Westry appears to be a very raw but toolsy freak with great size. He played on a very good UK defense last year so it will be interesting to see what Richard can do with him. I read some suggest that maybe he could develop into a S.

- Hyatt was a multi-year starter on Clemson and was a pretty solid player. I could see him developing into a good swing type tackle.

- Guyton was actually a fairly highly rated kid coming out of high school with offers from places like OU, Missouri, A&M, Stanford, etc. He eventually signed with Notre Dame but it didn't work out. It appears he dominated in JUCO and then North Texas.

The odds are none of the four will ever really amount to much but for now, these are the four that I think you might be able to find maybe one or two productive guys that can help.

Westry's size for a CB is freaky.
could be a real gem.

Daniel Wise is a good player...wouldn't shock me at all if he makes the 53...there's usually one that does.

Mitch Hyatt...surprised he wasn't drafted...good,steady OT.

Hyatt might have trouble really getting a chance here though given the depth at OL now. Granted Collins isn't long for this world as he will probably get paid next year. Williams appears to be potentially moving to RT for the future and Fleming probably isn't long for this world either as a swing. So maybe they can stash Hyatt for a season and he can slide in as a swing guy in 2020? He played LT for Clemson but he's probably better suited for RT based on what I have read. A four year starter at a national power clearly has some talent, so it will be interesting to see what he has.

Our WR depth chart also presents some opportunities for a guy like Guyton. The only real long term options there are Gallup and Cooper. Everyone else is basically on a short term deal.

Those are exactly the names that caught my eye as well.

Surprised Wise wasn't drafted. Now you have to try to find a roster space for him. Full up at defensive tackle this year, really empty next year.

Western is a Kris Richard special, all kinds of length, but some speed there too. A lump of clay to be molded by Richard's techniques. I think I had read of some pre-draft interest, so when the Cowboys took Pollard over Isaiah Johnson (who I think Richard really wanted), he gets Westry as a consolation prize.

I'm surprised Hyatt wasn't drafted. That's a really good get. Had some nice performances against some good pass rushers like Bradley Chubb. I think they stole one here, but, like Wise, how do you find the room to keep him while he develops?

Guyton was Kyler Murray's receiver in high school while they won consecutive championships. Immaturity and attitude issues wrecked his college career. But he now claims that he gets it. He's a lifelong Cowboys fan and Texas kid. His measurables are really high, and he looks like a guy that can take the top off of a defense, but he needs development work, Sanjay Lal special here.

I'll be keeping an eye on Gifford (LB - Neb). We need another LB. Westry and Jackson will battle for the 5th CB, loser trys to get stashed on the PS. Living in ACC country, I've seen a ton of Hyatt. Great college player. Looks a little slow and lacks strength for NFL DE's. I think he's a long shot.

All are interesting. But see them as PS players for now. Wise may push for a spot, but it is a crowded position now.
Guyton is interesting, but there seem to be 3 or 4 WR's ahead of him too that can push some players. But Guyton, hopefully he pushed Lenoir off the roster / PS spot.
Westry is intriguing as I think he has the best shot at the 53 of those 4.
Hyatt, that position is too deep to crack, unless injuries.

Some other name though as I don't know that much about, are the 4 UDFA LB's. McDowel, Phillips, Gifford and Hall. Can any of them claim the 6th LB spot, or 7th if they keep 7 again. They will be competing with Covington and March-Lillard.

I think Wise may have a hard time making the team, given the number of players on the list. he has a long way to climb, but probably a good PS candidate.

the best spots for anyone to make the team are DB and WR.

I like Hyatt, given his starting experience. we can find him a spot.

Not a high chance it happens but I'd love to see Hyatt replace Fleming.

I just did another thread on the way too early 53 and last year we started the 2018 season carrying 7 LBs and we only have 6 on the roster right now. So Gifford might have a fighting chance assuming they bring in no one from the outside.

I agree on Westry. Except I’d say he has a more than some speed. Clocked at UofK pro day at 4.31.

You’re right Richard will love his chance with this guy.

I guess I don't see the depth at DT that some of you see.

Last year their initial 53 had 5 DTs - Woods, Collins, Ross, Irving and Jones. Irving is gone, Jones is gone and Ross is just a JAG. Woods, Collins, Hill and likely Covington are there for sure. If Wise can show he can play a little, I'd rather have him than Ross.

Likely not this year, but Fleming's salary jumps up for 2020 and I doubt the Cowboys want to pay that for insurance.

Maybe you right but if all thing are equal and Hyatt shows some starting ability, no way in hell I'm releasing or PTing him coz Flemming salary. Other words, he becomes the new swing on a rookie salary. That alone will offset the cost of cutting Flemmings.

Fleming is on a 2 year deal... what is Looney’s status? If he is on a one year deal— he may be the odd man out which makes room for McGovern as the interior OL backup. Maybe Hyatt sticks as a second backup OT?

That would make our OL look like this:

LT: Smith, Fleming
RT: Collins, Hyatt
LG: Williams, Sua Filo
C: Frederick, McGovern
RG: Martin, McGovern

Could go with 9 OL and keep Hyatt inactive most Sundays since Williams, Fleming, or even Martin could backup RT if Collins gets hurt

If he is hurt for a longer period of time, either Hyatt or Williams could jump to RT.

Lots of depth along the OL— but it looks like Looney’s days may be numbered, and Collins is gone in 2020

Yeah, if McGovern can really play C in the NFL, Looney's days may be numbered.

Don't get me wrong, I'd hate to risk losing him too. I'm just trying to figure out where they have room for these guys at offensive and defensive line during what looks to be a transition year.

Yeah, if McGovern can really play C in the NFL, Looney's days may be numbered.

After last year's performance filling in for Frederick, I have to think that 'Jumbo Joe' would have some measure of a trade market.
