hmmmm....and i've been saying for awhile football is pricing itself out of reach due to escalating salaries for the most part. i get less flack when i say that than when i first started.

High priced seats also limits the real Cowboy fans. You end up getting a bunch of people that got tickets from companies courting their business who don't care enough about the Cowboys to make noise at the game.

Crying shame.

Without the dorky fan stuff, what do you think they could offer during those dead periods?

It would probably be better if they didn't. Why? Because people would be in line buying more popcorn, hotdogs, and beer! :laugh2:

Have been hearing this for 35 years.

The same can be applied today as then...if you can't afford to go and spend some cash...they don't want you there, they want the people that can.

And there are.

Ice, I am not an Economist but I would think that if prices fall and salaries continue to escalate that revenues will diminish, unless the NFL finds another source of income to offset it.

Though the NFL makes alot of money through TV Deals and Ads, at the heart of it all is the fan.

lol why is it dorky stuff? but off the top of my head i really don't know. During timeouts and the end of quarters i'm either A:racing to the bathroom,B:going to get something to drink/eat, or C: discussing the game(what we need to do,what we are doing wrong, what we are doing right, just taking in seeing my favorite players that close to me and stuff like that.
C'mon some of the things they do is very corny and dorky. But then that's why I like going. Just so I could see some of the goofy stuff people will do to grab a t-shirt thrown into the stands or watch some fan miss a reasonably close field goal or half court shot if you're at b-ball game.

I'm one of the cheap fans. I eat before I go and rarely drink anything at a game. I pay for the game and parking. Don't even buy a program. I hate the cost of some of those things and the food is never good enough for me to justify it in my mind.

well that sounds like some common sense to me. : )

the biggest problem to me is the cap going up like it does and now it's going uncapped in what, 2010? i see a whole lot of backloaded contracts coming up for anyone singing now. with a cap i think newman stood to make more overall, for example.

say he got $8mil avg. w/o the cap i can give him a 12mil a year contract, backload it, and cut him when the cap is over. the transition period should be very interesting. then, can the smaller markets keep up?

can green bay survive modern day corporate football w/o a cap? carolina or jacksonville? i can see a few teams biting the dust or some LA Panguars coming up in some wild merger/move combo.

then pay per view isn't far behind.

if people feel the ultimate crash and burn can't happen, examine the recent history of hockey.

Ladies and Gentlemen. We are about to turn into Manchester United. Only the read and wealthy can afford to go the games and all the real fans dont.

If these prices stay this way we will have the worst stadium atmosphere in the NFL.

There are several flaws in this reasoning.

One.....TV makes up most of the money these players are getting, not seat revenue.

Secondly......"If prices fall"........your assuming that the prices are in the average place to begin with. They are not. You're looking at $350 per ticket when the same ticket could be had at texas stadium for $120. I'd say there is plenty of room for "prices to fall" before a player has to take a cut.

Thirdly......This is Jerry's money. If he sold each seat for a million bucks and sold it out, he still doesn't have to pay players any more than the Bengals do because of the cap. If the Bengals sellout 10 games and make 25 million off of it they still have a 50 Million dollar cap they can't go over. If Jerry sells out 10 games and makes 300 million, he still has the same 50 million cap. Where does the rest go? Into his pocket.

Now I'm all for making a buck, but good lord. We're talking about 30 years of tickets with PSL's in the range of 2-3-4 hundred thousand dollars. You simply have to be kidding me.

In reality, I don't worry about it a bit, because these prices are going to SHOOT down when Jerry realizes he can't get that kind of money. He could probably get $350 per seat, but the amount of people who are going to pay these PSL's are going to be few and far between.

I work with a guy who has had season tickets since the Cotton Bowl days, and this guy makes a tremendous living. Over 200K per year, and there is no way he's going to plop down that kind of cash on Jerryworld.

You know what kind of home theatre you can get with 10 grand???? A damn nice one.

Re-read the story again, and look at the last paragraph closely......it says that the salespeople are telling people that 70% of the people are paying for the PSL's. But the DMN right below it says hogwash. Only 1800 have been sold so far. Who you gonna believe? Some used car salesman hocking tickets or the Dallas Morning News?

The PSL's will come down, they have too. There aren't enough corporations in dallas to pay that type of money, let alone regular people.

.

Far behind? Direct Tv Sunday Ticket.

If they ever go to a full fledged pay per view, it would be a sad, sad day. Even sadder......I'd pay it.

Well I guess if they don't sellout games because of Jethro's greedy pricing then that would mean:
