Interesting playoff rushing stat

Coaching is key. If you look at the coaches who's teams are in the playoffs you see 10 Super Bowl appearances combined. The rest of the league combined you have only 8 appearances.

Coaches with SB appearances currently in the playoffs:

Belichick 5
Fox 1
Reid 1
McCarthy 1
Payton 1
Harbaugh 1

Coaches with SB appearances not in the playoffs in the rest of the league:

Tomlin 2
Coughin 2
Shannahan 2
Harbaugh 1
Fisher 1

What are you talking about? Almost getting in the playoffs means nothing, actually getting in does.

It's clear to anyone not blinding themselves that effectively running the ball is the difference between these teams winning and losing.

People can create posts about time outs all they want to try to excuse Garrett's poor game management, but it's much bigger than that, and this run game the good teams are showing only further illustrates Garrett's failings.

He's been terrible at run game planning since he arrived here.

It's why he was partnered with Sparano.

It's why Phillips tried to hire Dan Reeves.

And it's why they brought Callahan here originally, based on how well the Jets run game performed.

But Garrett hasn't and likely never will understand the nuances of the running game and how to use it effectively.

We can and have clearly shown the ability to run the ball.

Some just don't want to.

Marshawn had 28 carries, nobody else had more than three.
Blount had 24, Ridley got 14.

Both those teams are just leaning on one guy and using the others for just a breather.

Our offense is not doing the things needed to win games. Ball control. In order for this current team to compete it needs to keep its defense off the field. Ball control will help that. No one is saying that we need to just run only but what we need to do is keep the other teams defense honest. Play action...when we are running the ball well, we need to use PA. Even if the play doesn't work, we still need to use it. Just like taking shots deep down the field. Even if those play aren't successful, we need that defense to start wondering what we are actually going to call.
 
It is amazing that Garrett was on those 90s Cowboys teams and operates an offense like he does. It boggles my mind honestly...
 
BTW, it's been a myth running out of control around here for a few years that the running game doesn't win or lose football games. It usually doesn't. I'm not blind this is certainly a passing league and therefore the games are usually won/lost based on how well you toss it and stop the other team from doing so.

But don't get it twisted. The easiest way to win a football game is still by running it down another teams throat. The opportunity doesn't come up every game. But if your OL starts mauling the opposing DL and they can't adjust to your physicality, then the game by all intent and purposes is over. All you need to do at that point is get out of your own way. We need to get out of our own way a little more here in Dallas.

There's just no need to do a bunch of calculus if simple addition will work ... and you should try the addition first ... and never stop completely trying to use it ... ever. If that doesn't get it done, and it won't a lot of times, be my guest and wow me with your mathematical genius.

You don't need he other team's offense off the field if your own offense scores more points than theirs does each time it has the ball. All you need to do is throw it more effectively than they do. That's it.

The running game is for short yardage conversions, for getting you into effective downs and distances to keep converting, and for keeping you from passing ineffectively once you've got he lead. Anybody choosing to believe anything else is simply not watching games closely enough or misinterpreting completely what it is that wins them.

To be fair we ain't got no Lary Allen, Nate newton, Mark Tuenei, Stepnoski, Erik Williams, Gesek up front and we sure ain't got no Emmitt, saying that I hate how Garrett operates this team.

Maybe. Maybe not. We know they were better than almost everybody this last season. And our defense was worse than almost everybody. So worrying about the offense right now sure seems a lot like a misplaced analysis of the problem.

You really think a running play is the correct call on that situation? Yes it could work but you can't be that conservative, specially if you don't have a great Defense, Seattle does, Dallas doesn't.
But I do agree that we should be running the ball more.

Better than everybody? On offense we were 16th in the league, yes we were 5th in scoring but we were also around 10th or so in total takeaways, so that helped a lot in terms of putting points on the scoreboard.
We can get a lot better on Offense imo, and in no way am I saying the offense gets more blame than the defense, I know that's where our deepest problems are.
 
Offensively, when you look at the teams that are in the playoffs, you see teams that have the ability to rush the ball and commit to it when needed. Passing will win games, but at this time of year being able to run the ball and have a more balanced attack is going to provide a team a better chance to get to the next round. This time of year, weather can be a huge factor in the ability to throw the ball, there are times you just have to be able to commit to the run.

You are right but you have to go deeper than that, Seattle, that's just their MO, they run the ball with a beast and play great defense, NE had a heck of a game plan (that's what good coaching does) running it against one of the worst rushing defenses in the league.

I understand what you are saying but you have to agree we could and should get better, look at our 3rd down % for example, we have to be more balanced, that doesn't mean we have to be running it more than passing it, of course not, but it seems we are throwing it all day long.
