In the NFC, Vernon Davis, Jason Witten and Tony Gonzalez are #12, 13 and 14 in the NFC in that order in receiving yards.

And they're all within 38 yds of each other.

Gonzalez can be labelled as more of a pass catching TE. Witten is probably the most complete TE of the bunch. I haven't seen enough of Davis to comment on his game. Except he has 11 TD's to Witten's 1.

Might Jason be left out of the Pro Bowl because of that?

He might. But after his 14-catch, 209 yrd game with 5 TDs this week, I think he'll gain ground. :wink3:

That's a legitimate question about the Pro Bowl. Gonzalez is a lock. Davis could beat Witten out but I'd bet against it just on reputation. But Davis is having a better year receiving. Not saying he's better just having a better year receiving.

based on the players and coaches voting i would say davis is gonna get in before witten. Davis is one of the only reasons the 49ers are scoring any points.
I would definately agree though Witten is probably the overall best TE in the league right now.

don't worry about the td's. when the td's he has lost are going to other members of the team, there isn't a problem. if witten had 11 td's miles austin would have like 3. the coaches and players should understand this. he's not all the sudden worse than he was the last few years. miles austin is dominating and tony romo is just not as effective in the redzone this year(he has consistently been top 3 in the redzone).

I actually think Gonzales won't make it. Davis' TD's are too hard to ignore.

I know Witten's TDs are down, but it also seems to me like his drops and penalties are both up - all of which would make him a weaker candidate than in past years. I haven't seen enough of the competition to judge whether they should bypass him this year, though.

He is un-coverable while running a seam route. I'd bet that at least 6 of his TD's are on that same route.

He's simply too fast.

I agree. Gonzalez has had a down year, per his standards. He hasn't had one breakout game (100 yards or more) this season. Davis is definitely going, and Witten should be joining him.

It is a hard call to make but Gonzalez is now on Witten's turf in the NFC so that may affect things.

It is a bit of a puzzle why we've never been able to spring Witten for many TEs in the red zone despite his size and hands. You would think we would be able to sneak him out once in awhile as DLs really gear up for Barber up the middle on 1st down inside the 5.

I don't know about that. I'd consider Davis the lock and Witten and Gonzales possibly being left out.

Vernon Davis is having a killer year. I would not be surprised if he is the one that gets in. Davis is FINALLY in a system that uses his talents. He has WR numbers this year.

Do the players and coaches vote based on stats or from a fan perspective? I have heard plenty of stories about players voting for guys based solely on name recognition. Has Vernon Davis done enough to get his name remembered by opposing players? Witten and Gonzales are well established names at the tight end position. Which guy led the voting by the fans? It is hard to tell sometimes which guys will make the pro-bowl. You just don't know how each fan, coach or player based their voting criteria.
