I've never thought Urban Myer would generate a lot of interest from the NFL, but Jim Rome said a few weeks ago he thought Urban Myer would be in the NFL next season. That really surprised me. I wondered what Rome had heard that would make him say something definitive like that. Then today I come across this on a college football forum...

Heard this on 104.5 in Nashville Today

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
With George Plaster. He had Chris Lowe who covers SEC football for ESPN on his show. I just caught the last part. This guy says the NFL will come calling for U.Meyer at the end of the year and look for a 5 to 6 MILLION dollar deal. Now Like I said I just heard the last part. I did not hear any team names. George asked did he think he would leave and he said all coaches in the NCAA always wonder when they have won really well at their School if they can do it at the next level, and said he thought UM would take a shot at the NFL. Just what I heard at the end of the show.

I'm not saying it's going to happen, but with Myer's ties to Belichik and Robert Kraft there could be something to it. I'm not saying he's going to the Pats, because I haven't heard anything about Belichik wanting to step down, but Myer may have more interest in the NFL than we might think.

Who knows? Belichik might want to do what Parcells did and move into a GM position and turn the coaching over to the new kid like Parcells did with Sparano.

Anyway just found it interesting.

Yeah maybe. Don't see it happening in NE though. Billicheat seems to be way to much of an ............ to give anything to anyone.

Meyer's a college coach. Has been quoted many times that he dislikes the pro game.

a) The Pats already have an outstanding GM in Scott Pioli

b) Parcells is not the GM in Miami, he is the VP of football operations

c) Sparano is not a kid

d) There is nothing in what you reported that is anything other than pure speculation about a college coach who happens to be the hot topic of the day. Three years ago or so, it was Bob Stoops, then it was Pete Carroll, now it's Urban Meyer.

5) What does any of this have to do with Roy Williams or MBIII's little toe? :laugh2:

Urban Meyer runs the spread option. Tim Tebow is his prized player, his once in a lifetime player.
Tebow is being looked at as an H-back.

His offense isn't an NFL offense. That is his expertise.

Charlie Strong is the heart and soul of his defense. He is the guy who would make a great head coach. He should have a college head job.

Meyer's specialty is the spread offense and special teams.

He would bring zero to the NFL table in terms of offense or defense. You would get a motivator and special teams coach. Your coordinators would be the brains of the operation.

One word.

Urban Myer will be the next coach of Notre Dame, he already said that was his dream job

Didn't he turn that job down once already?

I hope he does leave. That offense is brutal to stop. He's sitting in Florida with 4.3 guys running to him. He could take some of those players up north, but he better be careful. I bet he would cut the grass.;)

Florida is still Florida, and they could hire Dan Mullen to come in there and keep the thing rolling. He could seal the borders or his recruiting grounds.

Oklahoma has no idea what they are in for. Florida is the best team in the country.

Although, I hope Oklahoma wins.

By the way, will someone take the remote away from Jason Garrett on Saturdays. He must be watching the BIG 12 South. Make him watch Alabama.

I think OU is gonna beat Florida. I dont see their defense stopping OU, who I think will likely score more TD's. I do think OU has enough speed on defense to at least slow Florida down, and if they get behind they are not catching up because Tebow is not a good passer.

And no, I'm not an OU homer. I actually hate Bob Stoops and think he vastly overrated as a HC. But I do think they'll beat Florida.

Take it for what it is worth from a former UF baseball team member...Rumor around Gainesville is that Urban will not make any changes until his kids are out of high school. Then the Notre Dame job is an option again, until then he has said no go.

Essentially the same reason Billy Donovan has (the UF basketball coach). That is why he accepted and then quickly turned down the Magic job. Their wives and families are great friends and seem to think very similar.

Charlie Strong is an excellent coach. He's the kind of guy I'd like as a coach here. In any capacity.

Gator fan here. Meyer isn't going anywhere. The guy is a god in Gainesville and finally has the personnel to run that spread offense. Meyer wants to make people forget about spurrier and continue to dominate the state. BTW that defense is going to pound bradford.

I'd be surprised if Meyer is in the NFL next year or in the next 3 years honestly.

That said I don't believe New England would be a spot cause I believe Josh McDaniels is the HC in waiting there isn't he? I thought he was in a similiar type situation as a couple of these other coaches.
