Interesting Scandrick take from a BSU fan

and, obviously, a long time Dallas fan.

Last night when the players taped intros were played on the first possessions of the game, Scandrick stated his school as "Los Alamitos High School" instead of Boise State.

This ruffled some BSU fans and they called into the yokal Boise BSPN affiliate's sports talk show to complain.

One of the hosts of the show, the ID Statesman's sports editor Mike Prater, claimed that Scandrick has had a grudge against BSU for questioning his early jump to the NFL and generally for not getting along with the coaching staff at BSU.

Prater claimed this (naming his high school instead of his college) was, in his opinion, a sign of Scandrick's immaturity.

Now he may have some axe to grind with Scandrick from covering him while at BSU, but it was interesting to hear just the same.

heard this on the radio today.. apparently Scandrick is accusing his coaches of "bad mouthing" his character and his play in order to hurt his draft status

I noticed Scandrick saying that during his intro, kinda odd.

A lot of players do that. I personally have never liked it. Scandrick isn't even in the first 2 dozen players to do that.

He wouldn't have had a draft status if he would have been playing like he did last night all through out his college time.

Hopefully it was just 1 game.

I don't know about that, but I remember Scandrick being a ****** to people on UStream with Martellus.

Luckily, he's a nobody and nobody recorded it.

It I remember correctly, I think Larry Allen used to do this too. I never took this as disrespect to the colleges but maybe giving some props to their high school on national TV.

I was at the Radio Road Show in Tampa, and when I got Orlando's autograph I asked him "how'd you like the Boise State game vs Oregon" last week thinking that would get a smile from him.

Nope.

He signed my picture and said simply "I don't follow it to be honest". And I was kinda perplexed... so I said... "You went to school there didn't you?" And he looked at me like he wanted to tell me something... not angrily... but just said "It's a long story man." And I just shook his hand and said "Ok, just keep up the good work and good luck tomorrow".

So he definitely holds a grudge. Think about it though, Orlando left early and was expected to go much higher than he was supposed to. We heard stuff possibly about his character, but there weren't a ton of specifics.

I bet you that's it.. I bet you he holds a grudge against the coaches because they must have said something to scouts. Really, he's been a model citizen and teammate since being in Dallas.. but if I were him, I'd definitely hold a bit of a grudge too.

A supposed bad attitude was what pushed him down into the 5th round.

I don't recall the specifics but I remember it had to do with his former coaches at BSU.

His interview today made me think there is hope for him. He really seemed to be humbled by his bad game last night and will do everything in his power to redeem himself.

Agreed. I thought it was just a player giving props to his high school.

Look, the last thing I'm going to worry about with Scandrick is that he didn't acknowledge the college he attended.

Interesting report.

So maybe the yokal sports editor (Prater) is basing his claims on more than just having personal issues with Scandrick.
Prater also mentioned he thought Scandrick had issues with the way BSU treated his close friend and teammate Jeremy Childs who left early this year (and so far has completely flopped as a pro).

I do know that it was pretty common knowledge that, once Kyle Wilson showed up at BSU and got a chance to show his game, the coaching staff was much higher on him than Scandrick. That probably left a bad taste in Scandrick's mouth, being upstaged by the new kid on the block, after Scandrick had a very good freshman year himself.

Not the first time it's happened. Hofstra coaches supposedly did the same crap to Marques Colston. Simmons wrote an article on it, as did someone else for the NO paper. Coaches went so far to poison the waterhole as saying that Marques and his QB would pull a Steamin' Willie Beeman and change plays in the huddle to get Colston the ball.

I doubt that these are the only two instances of it too.

FWIW, somebody within the last few years did a Middle School shout out on a night football game. Al and John were the commentators and specifically said laughingly, "what's next, somebody's kindergarten school?"
