In the Cowboys rich 58 year history, 5 QBs have thrown for over 400 yards in a single game. Interestingly, having those kind of passing yards is usually a recipe for a loss. Here’s the evidence:

Here are the Cowboys QBs who have thrown for 400+ yards in a game, and their record in those games.
1. Tony Romo- 5 games over 400 yards. Record 0-5.
2. Don Meredith- 2 400+ games- 1-1.
3. Dak Prescott- 2 400+ games- 1-1.
4.Troy Aikman- 1 game- 0-1.
5. Kellen Moore- 1 game- 0-1.

Combined record for all 400 yard+ games: 2-9. Obviously having over 400 yards passing in a game is usually a recipe for a loss.

One other interesting stat-
The Cowboys have won 5 straight, and the last two by doing something very rare- They have won the last two games DESPITE losing the Turnover battle 5-2, and having lost the sacks battle in the last two games 10-4.

This speaks to how well their defense is playing.

If you look at the games Romo threw for over 400 the defenses didn't often stack the box. They respected his arm. They don't respect Dak's arm yet. Hopefully they keep disrespecting it.

Was just thinking this myself. Usually when you see 400+ yards in the box score (for any team, not just us), it often means a loss. The fact that Dak was able to throw for almost 450 yards AND get the win with the turnovers is pretty awesome.

Edit: didn't realize Dak threw for 400 before yesterday. I'm thinking that happened last season?

You have the cause and effect backwards. People throw for 400+ because they have to and are behind, not because the game plan is to throw like that.

Is this including college or something because Dak only has yesterday 400 yard game on his resume?

because its typically playing from way behind and throwing on every play..throwing a ton is high risk and can end in losses..

Good question, but my source was Jean Jacques Taylor of ESPN Dallas.

Did you also notice all the 400+ yard games Romo had...we lost?

Yardage stats are overrated.

Yeah, because I was obviously boasting about yardage stats. I watched every game Romo ever played in as it happened, and same with Dak so far. I wasn't arguing with you about anything. Sensitive about Romo are we?

If Dak didn't miss on those throws to Gallup and got more air under that ball that ended up being a goal line pick, he would have thrown for probably 600 yards.

...and half of this board would be on suicide watch.

Hardly. Lol. I have issues but over-sensitive ain’t one of ‘em.
