Forgive me if this has already been posted, because if it was I didn't see the thread.

On last night's NFL Total Access (I listened to it on Sirius) they brought up the fact that the last 17 years the #1 seed in the NFC has never lost in the Divisional round of the playoffs.

Something else to chew on.

Here's another interesting stat. Credit goes to Chase Stuart at the footballguys.com forums.

"Very good teams (those with fewer than six losses in the regular season) are 7-0 when facing opponents that they swept during the regular season. And all but one of those wins were by double digits."

Hopefully now people who think beating a team 3 times in one season is tough will sleep a little easier at night. :laugh2:

Having said that, I don't put much stock in to statistics. I think this is going to be a tough fight. With a healthy TO, there is no question we match up very well with the giants. With a hobbled TO, this will be a hell of a game.

San Diego was a number one seed last year and lost in the divisonal round. The year before Indy lost in the divisional round. In 2000 the Titans lost in the divisional round. 1997 and in 1995 the Chiefs lost in the divisional round. The last NFC team to be a number one seed and lose in the divisional round was the 49ers in 1987.

Three of those teams were coached by Marty Schottenheimer, Tony Dungy's son committed suicide before the playoffs when the Colts lost, and the Titans lost to Baltimore, who went 12-4 that year and had a pretty good defense, so I've been told, and also went on to win the Super Bowl that year.

Going further, the Colts lost to the Steelers, who won the Super Bowl that year (winning all of their games on the road). The 1997 Chiefs also lost to eventual champ Denver. San Diego lost to a very good Patriot team this year, which hasn't lost a game since last year's AFC Championship game.

1995 Kansas City is the only real fluky one (the 9-7 Jim Harbaugh Colts) but again, that's with Marty coaching them.

The Giants can definitely win this game if things play out right, but they aren't as overwhelming as those other examples you listed. I certainly don't see this Giants team going to the Super Bowl if they move on this weekend.
