Interesting Thought About Defensive Coaches

With the possibility out there that one or 2 defensive coaches might bolt for Miami with Sparano I got to looking around at the names of some coaches who because of coaching changes, might be on the move.

Rex Ryan, DC, Baltimore. Bypassed for the HC job, might he look for a move? He could still get the Atlanta Job and it wouldn't surprise me if he did. If he does he could hire his brother...

Rob Ryan, DC, Oakland. Was dismissed after the season. Maybe he's the guy to replace Mike Zimmer since he moved on to Cincy.

How does that affect coaches in Atlanta? One guy who might be available is Emmitt Thomas, who was the Interim HC when Petrino bolted. He was the DB Coach before that and has 27 years experience.

I doubt any of the Washington coaches on Defense move around because I think Gregg Williams stays.

Same with Indy and Seattle if Dungy and Holmgren step down where Jim Caldwell and Jim Mora Jr. look to step into the HC roles.

Both Ryan brothers have extensive experience with the 3-4, and Emmitt Thomas is highly respected. Any of the 3 could be adequate replacements for anyone we lose.

Just thinking.

Amazing what we are left to think about when we don't have what we want to think about.:D

LOL

Guilty as charged. I'd like to land Emmitt Thomas if Bowles leaves.

If I remember correctly it would not be the 1st time his name has been thrown around in these parts. I agree 100% though, I think Dallas needs an old wise man to change things up a little and get back to the basics just like with Houck.

And Ray Sherman. I think he was a tremendous success here.

Was Emmitt Thomas in Atlanta the same time Wade was?

bring rex ryan along with ray lewis... ;)

Sad part is I'm not totally against the idea of bringing Ray Lewis to this team if for nothing more then attitude and leadership on the field.

we need a dirty thug on our defense....someone like ray lewis, rodney harrison, shawne merriman, john lynch, or mike vrabel. we need someone with attitude and fire. we need someone who will take a cheapshot or two and make the other team fear us a bit.

I believe Thomas and Phillips worked together before. He'd be great for our DBs.

The Ryans are both likely to stay put (even though Rex was fired in Baltimore they want him back). Rob Ryan actually didn't get canned in Oakland, he's still on their staff.

Didn't Wade get fired by Buffalo because he wouldn't replace the Special Teams coach?

Hope he's changed his philosophy since then because our special teams were so bad that something has to be done.

You are correct. Al Davis vetoed Lane Kiffin. I was not aware of that.

Just reading the tea leaves, and maybe I'm reading them incorrectly, but JJ seems to understand that Bowles and Pasq may leave for Miami, and it seems he isn't in a huge rush to replace them.

I think JJ said that it wouldn't be bad for Wade to hire his own staff (to paraphrase), and that JJ (and I suppose Wade) were off to the Senior Bowl.

Wade would take his time to meet a few guys and then take a decision.

Assuming we learn Bowles and Pasq make a decision to leave today, I'm not expecting to learn of their replacements as quickly as we heard Houck was replacing Sparano.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the team raid the Chargers staff. John Pagano or Wayne Nunnelly.

I think Dennis Thurman might be a good option as a secondary coach.

I'd like to see Marco Rivera made an assistant OL coach.

I think Bowles leaving could be the best thing that happens to the secondary.
